Jimmy Golding and the #31 PremiAir Racing Camaro have raced through for ninth place in race two of the 2025 Supercars season at Sydney Motorsport Park last evening evening.
While certainly pleased with this result, it was a case of mixed fortunes for the PremiAir Racing team tonight as Richie Stanaway was forced to park and swiftly exit his burning #62 PremiAir Racing Camaro on lap 8.
The newcomer to PremiAir Racing had been in P15 when his engine let go, causing an undercar fire. This misfortune followed what had been a strong start to the race for Richie, which had seen him move up from his starting position of P17.
The race two trouble wasn’t limited to Stanaway either – while Golding had a strong finish, he also had a tricky start, having moved up a couple of positions from P14 when he was sent off the road by Kai Allen on turn two of lap one.
Allen was given a 15 second penalty for the move, which saw Golding dropped to the rear of the field.
Thankfully the #31 was undamaged and Golding immediately began his fight back, advancing through the field to be P20 by the time the safety car was called to retrieve Stanaway’s car. Diving into the pits for a slick pit stop, he was able to resume with fresh tyres and fuel in P16.
Upon the lap 12 restart, Golding immediately put his best foot forward, moving from P16 to P14 in the first two laps under green before further marching up the field to P11 by the half-way point of the 52 lap race.
On lap 30, the second and final pit stop of the race saw four new tyres and fuel for the #31, with Golding continuing on his charge to be P10 by lap 34 and then move into P9 on lap 37 – a position he held until the checkered flag flew.

Ludo Lacroix – Competition Director, PremiAir Racing
“It is a very rewarding thing (to get the top nine) on a weekend where we have had a car on a fire and now a broken engine etc etc. It is rewarding for the team. We had good pit stops and good times during the pit stops, and they were clean. I am very, very happy for the boys, and happy for Jimmy – he has shown some maturity again, he is going his own way on his set-up and he is working with his engineer quite well. I am really pleased at this stage, there is a good atmosphere there, and I am working well with Simon, he understands where I am as I become sort of the engineer manager during the race as I don’t engineer a car during the races. I am very pleased with what we have done today in the racing, and even the process was a good thing, and that is what I like. I am happy with the process, and we didn’t make a mistake, and we chose the right thing to do during the safety car, taking two rear tyres and so on. It is good.”

“It was a bit better of a day today than yesterday, that’s for sure. We didn’t quite nail it, but it was definitely an improvement compared to Friday. I got a good start and made a few positions after turn one, and then went down the outside of turn two and accidentally got clipped by someone else and spun around, which sent me back to last. It was a big job to come back through the field from there, but one by one we picked them off as there was a bit of carnage here and there. I managed to get through all of that and finish up P9 so overall, it was a pretty good day and I am looking forward to tomorrow. It is great to have an extra race. Usually we would only have two, but to have three is awesome and I can’t wait to have another crack tomorrow and improve the car again.”

“It was a tough day for car 62 unfortunately, we had an engine failure early on in the race, around lap eight. So it is going to be a long night for the for the guys to change the engine and clean the car up – the fire extinguisher went off because we had a fire underneath the car due to the oil. On the plus side, Jimmy had a really good race – he came through the field and had a really good strategy and really good pit stops. The guys have been working really hard on those, so it is nice to see those good and fast pit stops. Hopefully I can bounce back tomorrow and have a good day.”
