DAN TICKTUM SACKED BY WILLIAMS F1 TEAM

F2 Carlin pilot and Williams F1 Test Driver Dan Tickum has been sacked by the team, allegedly following remarks made by the British driver against Nicholas Latifi while playing ‘Call of Duty’ on the Twitch gaming platform.

He was heard singing “Doo be doo be doo, Latifi is poo,” he sang. “Why does that still make me laugh?”

Following the Williams announcement, Ticktum posted on instagram that his departure had nothing to do with the comment and had been finalised well before his gaffe.

Ticktum has had some past issues with authority.

In 2015 he received a two year ban, with 12 months suspended for an incident that was labelled  governing body the Motor Sports Association for what it deemed “a disturbing and dangerous episode.”  In his report court chairman Guy Spollon described how Ticktum, after a first-lap collision with Collard had dropped him to the back of the field, passed 13 yellow flags, four double-yellow flags, two white flags and 15 safety-car boards to catch back up to his rival during the safety-car period.

Ticktum returned to racing with renewed determination and twice won the Macau Grand Prix in 2017/18. However, he raised the ire of motorsport officialdom with accusations of favouritism towards Mick Schumacher in the 2018 European F3 Championship, which Schumacher won ahead of Ticktum.

Ticktum had formally been a Red Bull driver, but was dropped by the team in 2019. Williams took him under their wing in 2020, until this most recent announcement.

Williams, which has remained silent on the matter.
