F3 ASIAN CHAMPS ANNOUNCE COMPACT 2020 SEASON

• Five-round 2020 calendar to conclude prior to start of European racing season enabling drivers to accrue Super Licence points from two series
• Championship offers cost-effective, high-profile platform with 18 Super Licence points maximum score
• All-FIA Grade 1 circuit calendar includes Middle East debut as championship broadens horizons

The successful F3 Asian Championship Certified by FIA has announced a compact format for its third season in 2020, which will see it conclude before the start of the regular racing season. The innovative format takes advantage of the new FIA regulations, announced by the sport’s world governing body, to enable drivers to accrue Super Licence points from first the F3 Asian Championship, and then a second series during the 2020 calendar year.

Under the new regulations, Super Licence points earned from a maximum of two qualifying championships can be accumulated from a single calendar year, provided that the start of the second falls after the end date of the first. With the 2020 F3 Asian Championship season ending in mid-March, drivers will then be free to contest a full season of any other qualifying championship.

While strengthening its reputation as a cost-effective series with an emphasis on maximum track time – the first quarter of the year being the dry season in Southeast Asia – there will be no compromise on quality in the F3 Asian Championship. The 2020 five-stop calendar will be comprised only of FIA Grade 1 circuits, and will see the series make its debut in the Middle East.

Maintaining the three-races per round format of the previous two seasons, the championship also provides a high-profile platform in the world’s most vibrant economies and in its biggest automotive markets. The international field represents a realistic performance benchmark, with the likes of Renault Sport Academy Driver Ye Yifei of China, Red Bull Junior Team drivers Liam Lawson and Jack Doohan, Briton Jake Hughes and 2019 championship leader Ukyo Sasahara among its current and formers drivers.

The F3 Asian Championship Certified by FIA made its debut at the start of the 2018 season, successfully pioneering the FIA’s new vision for Formula 3 and the development pyramid designed to take drivers from karting to the pinnacle of single-seater competition.

Further details of the championship’s 2020 calendar will be announced shortly following ratification by the FIA single-seater commission.
