MATT CAMPBELL LEAVES PORSCHE FOR FORD RACING

IN BREAKING NEWS Australian Porsche Factory driver Matt Campbell will be leaving the marque for Ford Racing in 2027 and returns to the FIA WEC World Endurance Championship as he spearheads Ford return to the top level sports car racing in the Hypercar Category.

Matt has sent us an exclusive voice message this evening from Le Mans, have a listen below or read the transcript further down.

Matt Campbell’s journey with Porsche stands as one of the ultimate success stories of the brand’s modern motorsport pyramid. Rising from local club racing in Queensland, Campbell climbed every rung of the Porsche ladder, transitioning seamlessly from a dominant 2016 Porsche Carrera Cup Australia champion to a Porsche Junior, and ultimately a premier Factory Works driver.

His tenure is highlighted by iconic endurance triumphs, including an emotional LMGTE Am class victory at the 2018 24 Hours of Le Mans and a legendary, late-race charge to secure the 2019 Bathurst 12 Hour for Earl Bamber Motorsport. Renowned for his blistering raw pace and precise racecraft, he cemented his status as a global sports car elite by capturing the 2022 IMSA GTD Pro championship in dominant fashion with Pfaff Motorsports.

When Porsche entered the cutting-edge GTP/Hypercar era, Campbell was deservingly tapped to spearhead the Porsche Penske Motorsport program. He consistently delivered on the world stage, capturing an outright victory at the prestigious 2024 24 Hours of Daytona in the Porsche 963 and securing a masterful victory at Bathurst the very same year—an achievement later honored by Porsche with a special-edition “Grello” 911 GTS.

Whether fighting for podiums in the FIA World Endurance Championship or anchoring IMSA endurance campaigns, Campbell’s decade-long partnership with Stuttgart has been defined by clutch performances, championship trophies, and an indelible legacy as one of Porsche’s most reliable and spectacular modern champions.

“G’, day, mate. Hopefully the noise level is, is okay just in Le Mans, but yeah, super, super excited to, to be joining Ford racing from, from 2027 back in WEC. Obviously a huge change for myself and yeah, it feels quite, quite surreal. You know, such a, a long time at Porsche, the past sort of 10 years and going through all the different levels, you know, young professional, junior driver, factory and racing at the top level of endurance racing with such an iconic brand. So it’s been a tremendous 10 years.

“Also, obviously I wouldn’t be in a position I am now if it wasn’t for them putting their trust in me and getting me through the different stages of my professional career in endurance racing. So it’s worked, worked out tremendously and I can’t thank them enough also for this year for allowing me the opportunity to already start testing and development with Ford alongside my racing program with Porsche already. So. But yeah, coming across to the blue oval from 2027 onwards, you know, I was doing an interview yesterday and couldn’t have, couldn’t keep the smile off my face. It feels quite surreal especially.

But now that everything is becoming more official, any announcement coming? It’s all, all getting real after it’s obviously been a big secret for quite a few months, so exciting for what’s to come.”

In Feburary this year Matt was awarded the prestigious Motorsport Australia Gold Star edging out F1 ace Oscar Piastri:
