Australian driver Pat Heuzenroeder delivered yet another consistent showing in Round 6 of the GB3 Championship, securing valuable points to retain and extend his second place in the Championship standings, now with just two rounds remaining.

The close racing at the historic Brands Hatch GP circuit saw Patrick demonstrate his ability to perform under pressure and yet again his trademark ability to gain places in the Championship’s reverse grid format, before some more bad luck ended his charge.

The two 15 minute qualifying sessions saw Heuzenroeder extract the maximum from the capability of his car. Showing pace and consistency, he achieved an impressive P4 in each of Q1 and Q2, yet again out qualifying his team mate and delivering against cars that are demonstrating some enviable straight-line speed.

In Race 1, with a good start and after briefly holding P3 into T1, he maintained his grid position throughout the race with a solid P4 finish, resisting pressure after a safety car restart to bring home important points.

Race 2 once again tested race craft and ability to perform under pressure, with a gap of no more than 0.3 seconds behind to the 3rd placed Championship driver throughout the entire race. Heuzenroeder showcased his ability to deliver flawless driving, his use of every inch of this old school track gaining much praise from the commentators, to hold P4 all the way to the chequered flag.

Starting P9 in the reverse grid Race 3, Heuzenroeder launched off the line with a superb getaway, climbing to P6. Unfortunately, a slight mistake by the same 3rd placed championship driver behind on one of the very quick parts of the circuit saw him tapped and pushed off track and into the gravel – only his first DNF of the season – cutting off what promised to be another strong result and more championship points.

Despite the setback, Heuzenroeder remains firmly in second in the championship, now with an extended lead, a testament to his consistent front-running pace across the year and his work developing the car with the Xcel Motorsport team, a team entirely new to the GB3 Championship this year.

Speaking after the weekend, Heuzenroeder said:

“Overall, I’m happy with the points we scored. I delivered the maximum possible in qualifying, and we had the pace in the car to defend strongly when it mattered although it was challenging to move forward.  Race 3 was a disappointing way to finish, but that’s racing. The important thing is we’re still second in the championship, a very strong position to be in given we are up against the team that has won 4 out of the last 5 championships.  The whole Xcel team is working incredibly hard, they are doing a great job and of course I’m really motivated to finish the season strongly.”

With two rounds remaining, next up in GB3 — the UK’s highest level of single-seater racing — is Round 7 at the Donington GP Circuit, set for 4-5 October, followed by Monza F1 circuit to finish the season.
