Sonic Motor Racing Services has kick started its 2021 Australian Formula Ford Championship with a handy haul of points in the opening round of the prestigious championship at Sydney Motorsport Park this past weekend.
The team’s two new drivers Valentino Astuti and Harrison Goodman finished all three races and collecting a heap of championship points as they get comfortable in their new surroundings.
For second-generation driver Astuti, it was an encouraging start to his Formula Ford career. The young gun had only enjoyed three test days in the lead up to the weekend that marked his first-ever car race having come straight out of karts.
Astuti was sensible in qualifying, finishing the session in seventh place, before finishing sixth, seventh and seventh in the three races.
His results see him sit seventh in the standings.
For Goodman, he had a difficult qualifying session and started the first race from 10th. He made great strides to finish seventh in the first race, followed by 10th and ninth place results in the final two races.
The next round of the Australian Formula Ford Championship will be held at Wakefield Park on May 21-23.

“I felt very comfortable with the team and the car, especially with all of the extra seat fittings to get me in it,” said Astuti.
“My pace was alright, but that was to be expected in my first ever weekend in the car and the track.
“I’m really happy with the way it all played out. I can definitely work on a steadier race pace, but overall, I’m happy to get the first meeting out of the way and we can focus forward.”

“It was a good learning weekend overall. I got some good experience,” said Goodman.
“I’m still learning the car and understanding it and getting better each time, and we were throwing lots of different set-ups at it to try and get more speed.
“I’ve got to know every in the team better. Sonic is a great team to work with.
“I’m looking forward to Wakefield Park next round. It’s a fun track, and hopefully we can do some testing before hand so we can improve on our results in the national championship.”
