Broc Feeney has taken the Exit Timeshare Now Paul Morris Motorsports Supercar to victory from pole position in his first ever Supercars race at Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit.

At 16, Feeney becomes the second youngest winner in Supercars history, however it is the first time the Kumho Tyre-shod series has been considered officially part of the Virgin Australia Supercars ladder system.

To start the day, Feeney set the fastest lap in a tricky qualifying session that was punctuated by mixed weather conditions – Feeney’s last lap of the session put him on top of the record 25-car Super3 field by 0.2s despite battling with traffic.

After a slight fumble in his first ever Supercars race start, the Gold Coaster got up to speed quickly and led at the exit of turn one.

Throughout the 10 lap race he was under extreme pressure from fellow competitors, however with Bathurst-winner Morris on the headset in the pits, he was able to pull clear of the field with Hamish Ribarits, creating a race between two.

Feeney – who stepped up from the Toyota 86 Racing Series this year – withstood the pressure to take the green and white Exit Timeshare Now car to the chequered flag in the lead.

It is a tremendous start to the season for Feeney who has been working hard during the off-season to become accustomed to the car mechanically through his apprenticeship at the Norwell Motorplex, along with his race training with the Paul Morris Racing Academy.

There are two longer 12-lap races in the Kumho Tyre Super3 Supercars Series tomorrow to take place at 10:35am and 4pm.

“What a feeling to win my first Supercars race, it’s just awesome,” said Feeney.

“It was hard work out there for 10 laps, I was under all sorts of pressure throughout the course of the race, but I had the Dude (Paul Morris) on the radio coaching me through it and we were talking through all aspects of the race as it was unfolding.

“I was nervous beforehand and just wanted to get a good start, especially off pole position here at the Island. I bogged it down a bit but was back up to speed real quick and then getting the lead into turn one was a good feeling – and one that I didn’t want to let go.

“The Paul Morris Motorsports team did an awesome job in preparing the Exit Timeshare Now car and it is awesome to have the entire team from Exit Timeshare Now and my family here this weekend.

“I hope we can continue the momentum tomorrow and remain where we are – bring it on!”
