The 2022 Battery World Aussie Racing Cars Super Series title may have been decided at Sandown in August, but the stakes remain high as a 30-car field returns to action at the Adelaide Parklands Street Circuit.

As the opening round of the new Highland Trans Tasman Cup, the thrilling battles the Battery World Aussie Racing Cars is renowned for will once again grace the streets of Adelaide.

Regarded as one of the popular classes on the Repco Supercars Championship support card, the big field of Battery World Aussie Racing Cars is sure to provide the closest racing and plenty of action.

The appearance of the Battery World Aussie Racing Cars on the Adelaide streets continues a fine tradition. The popular pint-sized category has been a support class feature in almost every Adelaide street track event since the category first established itself as a national racing class back in 2001.

Holding the coveted #1 plate following his success in the 2022 Battery World Aussie Racing Cars season is CoolDrive Racing’s Josh Anderson, but a competitive entry of 30 drivers will be aiming to end the season on a high.

Anderson’s challengers are led by Joel Heinrich and Cody Brewczynski, with the duo split by a solitary point at Sandown’s season finale. Heinrich is a previous champion in the category, while Brewczynski is one of Aussie Racing Cars’ leading rookies. Both drivers will carry Ford Mustang-bodied machines.

Frontrunner Kyle Ensbey returns following a part-season in 2022, while Anderson’s team-mate Reece Chapman, Kody Garland and Craig Woods in the Western Sydney Motorsport Nissan Altima adds to the depth in the field.

Also making returns in Adelaide after being away from the category recently are contenders Peter Carr, Adam Sharp, Dale Dunston, Ian Chivas, Emma Clark and Glenn Boyd.

Carr in particular will be one to watch as a previous polesitter and title contender in the Battery World Aussie Racing Cars Super Series.

A new rule debuting in Adelaide will also see two drivers split the driving duties. This feature has been taken by local competitors Jamie Sharp and Layton Mckechnie in the Frank Sharp Racing Holden Commodore.

Experienced sports car racer Scott Taylor makes a return in Adelaide and will juggle double duties in the Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia powered by AWS across the weekend.

The category also welcomes rookies Scott Dornan, Jack Boyd, Michael Bartsch and young female Formula Ford regular Imogen Radburn to the class who will take up the challenge of the Battery World Aussie Racing Cars at its high-profile return to Adelaide.

Fans trackside or at home watching on Foxtel or Kayo can also look out for the Battery World ARC Electric Grid car that leads the field of Aussie Racers from dummy grid to the main grid. The all-electric car can be seen as a feature of the Aussie Racing Cars paddock in the centre of the circuit.

The Battery World Aussie Racing Cars will contest four races across the VALO Adelaide 500 weekend.

Brad Ward-Aussie Racing Cars

“It’s really exciting to be back on the streets of Adelaide with a huge field of cars,” said Ward.

“Our category has been involved in the event for almost all of our 23 years since we’ve been running as a major national category.

“The competitors absolutely love the track and the atmosphere. It is the best event for us to come to. The circuit really suits our cars and it promotes great racing. It doesn’t matter when you look in the field, there will be plenty of battles.

“For all of these reasons, our class is a favourite of the fans as well.

“We can’t wait to get back to Adelaide. There’ll be a great buzz around the venue and we are proud to play our part in the return of this great event.”
