AMRS AND MARC CARS ANNOUNCE SUPER GT AUSTRALIA CHAMPIONSHIP

Owners of GT cars, MARC cars and other invited vehicles will be treated to an improved and simplified racing experience, thanks to a new agreement between the AMRS (Australian Motor Racing Series) and MARC Cars Australia to jointly manage a newly-branded “Super GT Australia Championship” in 2020.

The Super GT Australia Championship will effectively replace GT-1 Australia, after its owners Rod Salmon and Paul Taylor elected to transfer their management rights to the AMRS.

Super GT will feature a broader vehicle eligibility list, ensuring all GT cars in Australia are able to participate. Cars eligible for competition include any GT3-spec cars, MARC I and II cars, Porsche GT3 Cup cars, Ferrari Challenge cars, GT4 cars and other invited sports cars. Owners of these vehicles are advised to contact series management for further details.

Following feedback from competitors, the race formats at each round will be simplified, offering competitors a generous amount of track time.

AMRS Series Manager Matt Baragwanath said the change in management created some valuable opportunities for the championship.

“There are some exciting possibilities for the Super GT Australia Championship, especially in regards to the partnership with MARC Cars Australia, which is a growing business under the new stewardship of Geoff Taunton,” Mr Baragwanath said.

“We look forward to working with Geoff and his team to deliver a championship that meets the requirements of the competitors – an affordable, fun and hassle-free environment to enjoy testing the limits of their machinery.”

Geoff Taunton is enthused by the prospect of promoting the category.

“We are excited to be working with AMRS to promote the SuperGT championship,” he said.

“It is a fantastic category to race with – there is a great group of drivers already involved so we want to build on the foundation we have enjoyed being part of for the last few years.”

Mr Baragwanath paid tribute to Salmon and Taylor for their work behind the scenes in establishing GT-1 Australia.

“We would like to acknowledge the work done by Rod Salmon, Paul Taylor and their team in establishing and building up the GT-1 Australia category over the last two seasons,” he said.

“It’s given us a very solid competitor base to ensure the Super GT Australia Championship is a success.”

Competitors in the Super GT Australia Championship will enjoy all the benefits of competing on the AMRS program, including a dedicated team of officials and management staff, and a professionally-produced broadcast package that includes live streaming and free-to-air highlights packages on SBS Speedweek.

The Super GT Australia Championship will commence at Morgan Park, 4-5 April.
