Sonic Motor Racing Services has confirmed it will enter Formula Ford star, Courtney Prince and Pro Am, Graham Williams in Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge in 2020.

Courtney Prince will step up from Sonic’s Formula Ford team and will contest the Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge, driving the 911 GT3 Cup car that Aaron Love used to finish second in last year’s series.

Prince, 18, is regarded as one of Australia’s most promising female racers. Having completed a three-year stint in Australian Formula Ford Championship and finishing eighth last year, the Melbourne-based driver is looking to progress her career with Sonic as she starts her ascent up the Porsche Motorsport Pyramid.

Continuing in the team’s second car will be Pro-Am racer Graham Williams. Williams is set for his third-straight season with Sonic in the Porsche series and is keen to improve on his fifth in the Pro-Am class that he achieved last year.

Both Prince and Williams enjoyed a productive test day at Winton this week. It was Prince’s first drive of a Porsche, while for Williams, he was able to work closely with the team’s engineers to get the more out of his car.

The Sonic team is working on securing a driver for the team’s third entry for the new season.

Round 1 of the Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge season takes place from the 27-29 March at the Sydney Motorsport Park in NSW.

QUOTES

Courtney Prince, Pro, Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge:
“It was my first time driving a Porsche. I’ve only driven a Formula Ford, and it was a lot different to what I’ve been used to,” said Courtney Prince. The cars are much faster and grippier than a Formula Ford which tends to move around a lot more. I was surprised by how much grip it had, but I was comfortable in the outright speed of the car. It is exciting to move into the Porsche. I have always enjoyed the Michelin Sprint Challenge and to be able to do it with Sonic is awesome. They are a great team and have run Porsches for a long time. It’s a great team to progress with and build your career with. I would love to start to climb the Porsche Motorsport Pyramid. That is my aim, and this year is my first step in that direction.”

Graham Williams, Pro Am, Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge:
“It’s good to get back into it after a two month break away from the race track. The test was full on. It was 34 degrees and muggy. I did about 100 laps and it was intense. It was a really big day but we got through our huge program. My goal for the year is to go faster than last year. I just want to be the best version of myself. Even at 57, you can progress and grow. The Pro Am field in Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge is a pretty competitive field. You have some super quick drivers, plus guys who have a lot of experience. It is a hard class to compete in. I race with Sonic because they are the best. It’s as simple as that. They are the most professional, they push me pretty hard and expect a lot. I’m really looking forward to the 2020 season.”

Michael Ritter, Team Owner, Sonic Motor Racing Services:
“It was great to get the Porsches out for the first test session of the season. We are really pleased to see Courtney progress up for this year. She has shown excellent progress in Formula Ford and the timing is right for her to step up to Porsches. Having Graham in the team always brings a smile to everyone’s face. He is looking to make some improvements this year and we are helping him move up the pack. We still have another car that we would like to enter this year, but we are just waiting to see if those deals will come together.”
