Just days after he competed in the final round of the 2019 British F4 Championship, Bart Horsten stepped into a Formula 3 car for the first time as his team began to lock in plans for the 2020 season.

Fresh from a 5th place result in the F4 Championship and in between a raft of Year 12 exams. Horsten was invited to a test day, Bart travelled to Donington Park for the test with Lanan Racing.

“We turned our focus to finding the best possible step forward for my career in 2020, straight after the final weekend of British F4, said Bart. “This kicked of with my recent test with Lanan Racing where I was given my first experience of driving an F3 car at Donington Park, during which I got to meet Williams F1 driver, George Russell.

Lanan Racing have a well-established motorsport pedigree, having guided current Williams Racing F1 driver, George Russell to success in the 2014 BRDC F4 Championship. Russell was also on hand throughout the day to offer support to Horsten and fellow F4 graduates Carter William and Tommy Foster throughout the day.

The team had arranged for George Russell (2014 BRDC F4 Champion with Lanan Racing) and representatives from British F3 to attend the day, so we had this terrific opportunity to meet them all,Horsten explained. Getting to drive a car like that for the first time and meet George Russell made it a really special day for me and I cant thank Graham Johnson and Lanan Racing enough for organising such a brilliant event.

Bart’s team has indicated that the British F3 championship is the most likely destination for Horsten, as he continues his motorsport apprenticeship. A meeting with George Russell, another young driver who has achieved the dream has only spurred Bart’s desire to emulate Russell’s rise to F1.
