BART HORSTEN ENDURES WILD WEEKEND AT CROFT

Bart Horsten continued his excellent run of results with a pair of podiums during a rain affected British F4 Championship at the Croft Circuit in North Yorkshire.

Horsten was happy to claim 4th on the grid for the first race of the weekend and gave the young Australian the ideal springboard to challenge for a podium. He jumped two places during the course of the race and survived a brush with the wall to claim 2nd at the chequered flag.

“I was happy to finally have a strong qualifying session this weekend, even if I didn’t quite put the lap together that would have given me P2”, Horsten told Velocity Motorsport Magazine.

“This allowed me to use my grid position (P4) to score P2 in Race. I clipped the tyre barrier inside of the third last corner but I was able to recover. Even though the steering was slightly off after this incident, the car was still quick, and so after I fended off the ensuing attack from the car behind, I was able to pull a gap and bring home second position for the team.”

The heavens opened just before the start of Race 2, which eventually caused this race to be red flagged, which left Horsten empty handed after an excellent start saw him jump two places on the opening lap.

“Race 2 started in torrential rain conditions and I did well to make up two places on the opening lap,” Horsten said. ‘The race was red flagged shortly after when conditions continued to deteriorate and affected visibility for the drivers”.

Another great start in the final race had Bart Horsten in 3rd place and snapping at the heels of 2nd. Despite some intense pressure throughout the race, Horsten was unable to make any further progress forward.

“In the final race I had another good launch and jumped the car on my inside on the first corner to move into P3,” Bart exclaimed. “I applied some pressure to the car ahead, however I was unable to make a move and ended up having to defend my place from the car behind on the final lap of the race.”

“Overall this weekend was another great step forward for me and the team,” Horsten said as he reflected on the weekend. “My team mates also making strong finishes in all the races. I’m now turning my attention to the next race weekend at Oulton Park, in just under two weeks time.”

The abandoned race 2 will be run at some stage later in the year.
