“We came into this weekend after a bit of reflection back at base, and were going to try some new approaches in qualifying and race set up. Friday was a bit up and down, you know, practice was cut short so we didn’t get to apply our full run plan, which was frustrating heading into qualifying. We made some good changes and rolled out for the race and thought we had a pretty competitive car, which thankfully we did. I moved forward a few spots, had a few battles which was fun. I need to work on my starts which have been a bit of a weakness the last two rounds.”

“On Saturday though, I felt like we made a huge step forward in qualifying for the first time in a few rounds, I felt like I couldn’t have done much better. The race was a bit of a different story though. The start was tough; you don’t know which lines to pick – it’s a lottery every single time trying to work out how to make those early positions. And then, yeah, by lap fifteen or sixteen, we figured out that the cool suit wasn’t working properly. I had to battle that all afternoon, and yeah, it got pretty warm in there! Despite all that I still ended up eighteenth, which, you know, wasn’t awful, but we definitely could’ve been higher up the order if it wasn’t for the cool suit.”

“I felt like today was probably our best Sunday race yet this year. We tuned up the car and I think we had a pretty good race package all weekend. I feel like we just didn’t maximise it and we were obviously unfortunate with the cool suit failure on Saturday. First lap today, I’m not sure what happened – there was just cars everywhere. So, it was a bit of a dodge and a weave, and yeah, I think I weaved in the right direction, so that definitely helped! For the first stint, we were pretty strong but then started to die towards the end, which wasn’t ideal. Second stint was also really strong, I had a coming together with Zach (Bates) which seems to be a pretty common thing, but yeah, had some good battles and in the second and third stint today, coming back through the pack. At the second stop we had a bit of a problem with the right rear, so made coming through the pack a bit harder. But yeah, I think we ended up sixteenth for the day and showed great pace, maybe we would have been fourteenth or thirteenth if it wasn’t for the pit stop. A big step for the team and particularly for myself.”

Isaac Baldry, #11 Race Engineer, Objective Racing:

“A fairly positive weekend for #11, Jackson in particular. A rookie season is always very tough, and sometimes it takes a few events for all the little things to be put together, and I think this weekend was sort of a culmination of hard work by the team, and particularly by Jackson over the last few events to improve all the small details. The things that you don’t see, the braking technique, how you drive the car, how you look after the tyres, getting the car in the window for qualifying, feedback on the setup – all the small things that go into becoming a good Supercar driver take a little bit of time, and I think this weekend, a lot of those things started to fall into place, and the results showed.”

“So, the qualifying pace was good at times and race pace was very strong across all three races. We had a few small issues here and there, but recovered well and scored very good points all weekend. I think that the team as a whole is very proud of the results this weekend, but it’s really only a starting point that we’re intending to build on for the rest of the season. Perth is up next, where Jackson has never raced before, but we have processes in place at Triple Eight to prepare for these things and he’s got some work ahead of him to get ready, but I’m sure we’ll roll out strong and hopefully the Triple Eight cars will be up there. The speed across the entire group wasn’t as good this weekend as it has been in previous years, so we had to really dig deep and work together as a group to try and extract more car speed. And I think we definitely made some good gains by Sunday, so hopefully we can roll those forward into Perth and keep moving up the grid.”
