Triple Eight Race Engineering Super2 drivers Ben Gomersall and Jackson Walls will be behind the wheel of their Holden ZB Commodores at Sydney Motorsport Park from February 12-13, in a two-day test ahead of the Dunlop Super2 Series opener next week.

2025 marks Triple Eight’s return to the Dunlop Super2 Series, a pathway program for both drivers and crew members to progress to a full-time career. Current Red Bull Ampol Racing driver Broc Feeney and his engineer Martin Short both benefitted from the program, as did Will Brown’s current co-driver, Scott Pye.

The test will be Ben and Jackson’s first official laps as both a Triple Eight and a Super2 driver, who today announced naming-rights partners Objective as the primary backer of Jackson Walls in car #11, and Unit who will support Ben Gomersall in car #35.

Gomersall and Unit Racing will also enjoy support from Air Control Air Conditioning and Electrical, Hadley Green Investment Group, GRK Plumbing, MLB Industrial, and Peak Marketing.

Jackson joins Triple Eight after a strong season in Porsche Carrera Cup, finishing fourth overall and first in the junior classification for drivers aged seventeen to twenty-three.

Ben drove in the 2024 Toyota Gazoo Racing Australia GR Cup finishing sixth with multiple fastest laps throughout the season.

The Dunlop Super2 Series will commence at Sydney Motorsport Park from February 21-23 before visiting Tasmania, Townsville, Ipswich, Bathurst and concluding in Adelaide where a 2025 Series Champion will be crowned.

Jamie Whincup, Managing Director, Triple Eight Race Engineering:
“It’s great to be back. It all forms part of our plan to transition drivers from go-karts all the way into Supercars. This is a key step towards creating and developing that plan over the next two or three years. The Super2 series is a fantastic feeder to Supercars, as it really creates the opportunity for young kids to be able to hone their skills and get used to the Supercar world.”

“We’ve got two young guys that are keen & hungry, and they represent everything that we look for at Triple Eight as far as their work ethic and determination are concerned. They will have full spec cars that are basically the same as what we finished with in Adelaide at the end of 2022 – ready to go, full Triple Eight spec.”

“We wouldn’t enter the series if we weren’t doing it to win. However, Jackson and Ben don’t need to focus on the result. They just need to focus on the objectives to achieve a good result, week in, and week out. But of course, we want to make sure that we do it to Triple Eight standards and leave no stone unturned. It’s an all-in program that has the backing of everyone in the building.”

Jackson Walls, Super2 Driver, Triple Eight Race Engineering:
“I am super excited to get started in Sydney. It’s been a long few months now of waiting around, but everyone’s got their eyes on the prize. I’m stoked that everything’s coming together nicely, and I just want to keep everyone happy for the race weekends and do as good of a job as I can.

For sure, there are goals that the team want me to achieve. There are goals that I want to achieve myself too, but we have to be realistic.

I’m going into a completely foreign championship. The aim, of course, is still to win, but at the same time, we need to be realistic for the first weekend when there’s some heavy hitters out there.”

Ben Gomersall, Super2 Driver, Triple Eight Race Engineering:
“I am really, really excited. Obviously, these cars look brand new, nice, and fresh. Hopefully with the test days this week, we can get a good feel for everything, get some laps under our belt. It’s good that we’ve got two back-to-back days, which should help us really hit the ground running in our first practice on Friday”.

It’s been good to be within the environment at Triple Eight. Everyone’s really welcoming and friendly. It’s been good to spend a couple days at the workshop to familiarize myself with all the crew, building those all-important relationships with the engineers and mechanics.

First thing is going to be finishing both races, and staying out of all the trouble Super2 can cause. So, if we keep it clean, I think we’ll come home with a decent result. Overall, if we can improve from Friday to the end of Sunday, then I’ll be happy with that.”
