NED WHISKY TASMANIA SUPERSPRINT – FEENEY STEPS UP IN RACE 11
Symmons Plains had been a happy hunting ground for the Ampol Red Bull Racing Team in recent years, though pickings were slim in 2023 as Coke and Ned on ice seemed to be the perfect blend.
Bouncing back from his troubles in Race 10, Brodie Kostecki held a mortgage on pole position for races 11 and 12 in the Repco Supercars Championship at an icy Symmons Plains Raceway.
Broc Feeney sat alongside Kostecki with Brown and LeBrocq completing row 2 in what had been an excellent weekend for the Truck Assist Matt Stone Racing Camaros.
Kostecki held the inside line for the all-important run towards Turn 2 on the grid and used that advantage to run Feeney wide. Teammate Brown tucked behind and claimed a 1-2 for the Coca Cola Erebus Motorsport Team on the opening lap.
Shane van Gisbergen was amongst the thick of the action in 10th place during that opening lap. It was not a dire predicament for the reigning champion, who has shown the ability to scythe back through the field many times before. Race 11 unfortunately came to an end for the #1 all too quickly at Turn 6.

Contact with David Reynolds at the exit of the corner resulted in steering damage and left van Gisbergen powerless to the keep the Ampol Racing Red Bull Camaro off the tyre wall. It was in much the same place that James Courtney had hit the day before, though this contact was much more forceful.
Van Gisbergen managed to free his car from the tyre stack and make his way back to the pitlane with a noticeably deranged right front wheel. He played not further part in the race.
The two Coca Cola Camaros at the head of the field weren’t prepared to simply run in formation, with Brown moving into the lead for a few laps before moving aside to let Kostecki move back into the lead down the back straight on Lap 16 of 42.
Feeney moved into second place when Brown made his pit stop on Lap 18, with the #9 losing almost a second to his rivals during an awkward tyre change. He barely managed to hold out Will Davison by the time he was released from his pit bay.
Kostecki made his compulsory stop at the half distance point in the race, while Feeney continued for one more lap. That moment proved to be crucial to the race as Feeney used the overcut and a quicker pitstop to emerge with the effective race lead.
Waters, Mostert and Fullwood were amongst a group of driver who ran a longer opening stint, which placed them at the head of the field until their time in the pitlane arrived.
By the time the last of the late stoppers had cleared the pits, Feeney held a 2 second advantage over Kostecki, while third placed Brown had to contend with a trio of Mustangs in his rear view mirror. Waters held 4th just ahead of Mostert and Davison.
Feeney held on for the race win from Kostecki and Brown. Waters, Davison, Mostert, Slade, Le Brocq, Golding and Percat completed the Top 10.
