SVG AND AMBROSE RUN EARLY MORNING GEN3 TESTS AT SYMMONS
Friday morning, early, in fact before most of the media crews were at Symmons Plains the Supercars Gen3 Ford Mustang and Chev Camaro were put through their paces before a number of on track displays for this weekends Ned Whisky Tassie SuperSprint event.
At the wheel of the Camaro was Triple Eight’s Shane van Gisbergen, the Gis was one of the first drivers to voice how uncomfortable the new Gen3 car was for the drivers, the cars have since undergone some internal changes. Garth Tander is slated to drive the Chev for the rest of the weekend.
In the Ford Mustang was ex-Supercars Champion Marco Ambrose, the Tasmanian was having his first peddle of the Gen3 car.
After the session SVG hopped out of the Camaro and came over to the Mustang with a smile on his face, we heard Ambrose say, “oh it was you in the car,” we suspect he wasn’t aware of who was at the wheel of the Chev.
Both cars ran around 6 laps, with a break between where small adjustments were made to the cars, for the Camaro they put some tape over the brake ducts.
Here’s a video of the cars warming up, the engine noise is actually of the Camaro in the pit shed. Velocity Magazine were the only media onhand when the cars went out.
And here are all the images we shot in the morning.
