Dick Johnson Racing has become the first internationally and nationally recognised carbon neutral Supercars team. DJR has attained a Climate Active certification under the Australian Government’s Climate Active Network.
The certification of DJR to the Climate Active Network solidifies the team’s commitment to progressive action to make a positive contribution in society.
In late 2021, DJR announced their attainment of the FIA’s highest level of Three Star Environmental Accreditation, the first motor racing team outside Europe to achieve this.
To reach carbon neutral and be recognised by the Climate Active Network and FIA, DJR engaged Colin Trinder, a Certified Environmental Practitioner, with extensive experience in environmental management in defence sectors, natural resource management and motorsport.
Dick Johnson Racing Executive Chairman and co-owner Ryan Story is extremely proud to be the first Australian internationally and nationally certified carbon neutral, net zero, motor racing team. “At DJR, being leaders on the track is what we set out to do each time we go racing and being the leader in the Australian motorsport industry off track with our carbon neutral certification and accreditation is something that I am extraordinarily proud of.
“If any other Supercars team is looking to become carbon neutral, we wish to help them with their similar ambitions.”
Dick Johnson AM, Australian Motorsport Hall of Famer and Legend acknowledged the significance of the international and national certifications, especially being a world first for any motorsport team.
“As someone with two grandchildren, seeing the positive contribution DJR is making to society for the future generations and the continuation of the sport I have loved all my life is something I am incredibly proud of,” said Johnson
Motorsport Australia CEO, Eugene Arocca, applauded Ryan for leading the way in such a progressive approach to environmental sustainability.
“Motorsport Australia congratulates DJR and in particular Ryan for this outstanding achievement. Motorsport needs to lead the way in this space and having a respected team like DJR doing what they have done to date internationally and nationally is not surprising but very welcome.
“We would encourage other teams and motorsport stakeholders generally to follow this lead and work towards a similar result for their organisation.
“Motorsport Australia are currently working towards finalising our own strategy and will look to work with industry partners to provide a whole of sport approach to environmental sustainability,” says Arocca.
In partnership with Trees for Life and Tree Nation, the team has planted 26,751 plants in Australia and internationally in five countries.
