SWEET SUCCESS AT VALVOLINE RACEWAY
American superstar Brad Sweet made it two from two wins at Valvoline Raceway on Saturday, though Jamie Veal made life difficult for the World Of Outlaws Champion. Jamie Veal held and early lead as Sweet moved forward from the midfield at the start of the feature race.
He stormed into the lead near one third distance of the relatively trouble free A-Main and looked set to drive away from the pack. Veal ensured that he didn’t lose contact with the Spyke Chassis of Sweet and made a counter attack as the leaders made their way through the back markers. Veal dived past Sweet, who had been hampered by a slower car and swept into the lead. He kept the American at bay for the mid section of the race and managed to push out a small lead. Sweet looked to have settled for second before one last lunge put the American past Veal and back into the lead. He held on for the final few laps to take the win from Veal with Carson Macedo in third.
The track had been constantly groomed by track staff throughout the night as they battled the extreme heat that had fallen across the Sydney region. The track was still quite damp during the support heats and caused drivers some issues during time trials, with Duckworth and Caruana two notable victims of the conditions as they exited the evening with spectacular rolls at turn 4.
Ben Atkinson was another to crash out in the heats, but the track was fast and true by the finals, which ran without a red light.
