2019 marks 50th anniversary since Peter Brock’s first race at Mount Panorama.

Defending Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 Champions Craig Lowndes and Steven Richards have today visited the iconic Mount Panorama circuit where they claimed an emotional victory in 2018 to mark the 15 day countdown to this year’s Great Race.

The 2018 winners become rivals this year with Lowndes returning to partner with Jamie Whincup and Richards with Mark Winterbottom.

Lowndes and Whincup have won on the mountain together three times (2006-2008) while Richards and Winterbottom took the Peter Brock Trophy in 2013.

Richards and Lowndes joined Bathurst Mayor Cr Bobby Bourke at the Peter Brock statue for today’s media call before taking the Peter Brock trophy to the top of the mountain.

2019 marks the 50th anniversary since a 24-year-old Brock teamed up with Des West to finish third in his first-ever attempt at the 500-mile contest in 1969.

Brock then went on to claim nine Bathurst victories, more than any other driver in history.

Last year’s Great Race saw 206,755 fans walk through the gates at Mount Panorama, while 1.7 million people watched it on Fox Sports, Ten and Win.

This year’s event will celebrate the most memorable victories, defeats and unforgettable stories from the Great Race.
