Australian Oscar Piastri is set to complete the second half of a back-to-back weekend in the Formula Renault Eurocup at the challenging Hungaroring in Hungary, this weekend (September 6-8).

Just one week after opening up a dominant 40-point lead at the top of the championship standings, the teenager is aiming to solidify his advantage with four rounds left to run.

The 4.381km circuit, located just 20km from the historic city of Budapest, provides a stern test for drivers, packing in 14 turns which leaves little time for respite or room for error.

Melbournian Oscar has set a number of benchmarks this season, becoming the first driver to take back-to-back victories at Silverstone in May, the first to reach three victories at Spa, and now has five wins with a second back-to-back double at the Nürburgring last time out.

He will undertake two collective test sessions on Friday, September 6 at 09:00 and 14:20 CEST, with qualifying at 10:00 and race one at 13:55 a day later. The second qualifying session and race will be held at 09:35 and 15:25 on Sunday, September 8, with links to live timing and streaming coverage shared on Oscar’s social media channels.

“I had a fourth place finish at the Hungaroring last year which was one of my better results and missed out on pole by a few thousandths in the rain.

“It’s a very technical circuit as it has a lot of corners and corner sequences, so if you make a mistake it hurts you for three or four corners. Being smooth and getting into a rhythm is important,” said Piastri.

“There are a few track limits issues, places where you can go wrong, but it’s reasonably enjoyable to drive a lap around. It’s complex and definitely a drivers’ circuit but qualifying is everything.

“There are not a lot of passing opportunities, so the key is a strong qualifying and getting away from the line. I am looking for another good weekend to build on the championship lead we’ve now got.”
