American driver Matt Powers has taken out the 2018 Aussie Driver Search Pro Competition after the most competitive ADS finale on record.

Powers, 27, is based in California, USA, and will start to plan a new life in Australia after winning the title at Wakefield Park.

The victory will see Powers compete in a fully-funded drive with Matt Stone Racing in the 2019 Dunlop Super2 Series.

For full transparency, Aussie Driver Search has issued the full breakdown of results – from Round 1 right through to the three driver final that included Powers, Jesse Dixon and Jon McCorkindale.

Competition pools were seeded based on overall qualifying scores from the 2018 ADS qualifying events, with the top seven overall qualifiers going straight through to Round 2 of the final.

Round 1 of the final saw 10 pools of drivers competing, with the top two scorers from each pool progressing to Round 2, along with the top 3 third place getters. In Round 2, the finalists again drove different vehicles in each pool, with the top two drivers from each pool progressing to Round 3.

In Round 3, the finalists had the opportunity to drive a current-spec Super2 car supplied by Matt Stone Racing with the top three drivers progressing to Round 4, driving the Supercar again.

The full results and scores from each round were used to assist in the decision making process lead by head judge and touring car legend Glenn Seton.

Todd Hazelwood was also on hand to provide reference laps to determine a tyre degradation factor and the final three drivers all ran a set of green (new) tyres each.

In the GT Competition, Australian Formula Ford driver Hamish Ribarits and American Connor Bloum won drives in the Australian GT Championship. The pair will compete together in one round of next year’s GT Championship.

Lee Partridge won $150,000 for winning the Semi-Pro Competition, while Ethan Grigg-Gault clinched the Amateur Competition and the $50,000 prize.

“This was easily the most competitive program that we have ever held,” said Kyle Austin.

“I’m extremely confident in our scoring and judging system which has seen us leave the final with the most deserving winners.

“We take our judging very seriously and are fully transparent. It’s un-deniable that our winners in all categories did the best job on the day.

“All of our competitors have the run down of the criteria and results so they can see how it all came together and the facts are that our winners were the best on the day against the criteria we set.”

“The judging does not take into consideration anyone’s background, experience level or budget – it all come down to how they performed on the day.”

“It’s a dream, honestly,” said Matt Powers.

“It was a dream to just jump in here and drive a Supercar, especially a current generation Car of the Future that Matt Stone brought out here.

“But to be able to win… it’s hard to believe. Honestly, it’s beyond my wildest dreams.

“My dad got me into it (racing) and he passed away a couple, of years ago. I’m just excited to make him proud and be out here, and excited to be living in Australia soon.”
