Stadium SUPER Trucks points leader, Matt Brabham is gearing up for his first SCORE Baja 1000 with the Textron Speed Energy Team this week (14th-18th November).

Brabham partners with Tod Romano and his 2018 Stadium SUPER Trucks championship rival Gavin Harlien for the gruelling Mexican off-road race.

The team will contest the Baja 1000 in a Textron Wildcat XX RGpro edition in the Pro UTV Normally Aspirated class. The race starts on the Friday the 16th, at 10:30am PST (Saturday, 17th 5:30am, AEDT) for the Textron Speed Energy Team. Stadium SUPER Trucks owner and founder, Robby Gordon and Textron invited the Aussie ace to the event with his SST cohort.

While Brabham’s background isn’t in dirt racing like Gordon, he has been gaining experience through events like Mike’s Peak a dirt hillclimb in Baja.

The Indy 500 starter will bring the team home in their last leg, they expect the overall race to take 24 hours to navigate. The challenges that await Brabham are as varied as they are foreign to the tarmac specialist, with mountainous terrain and beach landscapes lying ahead. The event is a test of man and machine and Brabham will be paired with navigator Sean Sermini for his stint.

Practice for the SCORE Baja 1000 has started, and Brabham has had a run in the conditions, acclimatising himself to the style of the event and the course. The team and Brabham are just aiming to bring everything home in one piece.

There is live video streaming for the event from the 16th, which can be view here – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YroEvBmxD_Q

WHAT MATT HAS TO SAY…
“It was Robby’s decision to bring me on board, it’s not my background but I’m quite confident that I can get up to speed,” said Brabham.

“I’m going to go easy at first, but will hopefully be able to quickly get up to speed and have some fun.

“It’s a dangerous race but that’s the nature of off-road racing.

“Thanks to Robby and the guys at Textron for having me on board. It’s going to be good fun.”
