Aussie Racing Cars Round Two Phillip Island – Preview

The second round of the 2018 Aussie Racing Cars Championship is a real family affair, the class has been known in the past as a family-based racing category with plenty of father son/daughter teams and full family teams running cars but next weekends Phillip Island round will see 6 cars across three families competing against each other

Now in her third season of the pocket rockets Maddy Dunston will line up in her McDonalds Camaro alongside her younger brother Keelan in a similarly livered Commodore, we are sure dad Dale will not know where to look. 

There is nothing like a Husband and Wife team to get the blood pumping, lets hope they have an extra motel room!  Emma Clark and husband Adam have decided to run two cars this weekend, an orange Lustre Bar Melbourne Camaro each after only Adam running at the first round at Baskerville Raceway.

To finish off the family rivalry we welcome back a former national Aussie Racing Car champion Darren Chamberlin from RDA Brakes / Perenso Racing and alongside but hoping to be out in front is Chambo’s step-son Joshua Anderson, Anderson had a great round at Baskerville – it was somewhat a baptism by fire, his first running in the car in the rain which saw him pirouette the Camaro down a very wet fast back straight in practice one.

Twenty Seven cars are entered for the Phillip Island round, this round of course sees the cars with the high speed spoiler kit fitted to them for the fast Victorian round.  The cars will easily be pulling more than 200kms per hour down the front straight and undoubtedly three to four wide into turn one, who will have the biggest set of… don’t be rude, but who will the fastest be!

Going into this round Kel Treseder has the slimmest of margins of just one point from Adam Gowans, however the later is not running in this meeting.  Sitting in second spot and only two points off the top is Kyle Ensby, a sleeping giant he didn’t make a lot of noise at the last round but managed to sneak third from Joel Heinrich, Heinrich is one point down and one point ahead of Reece Chapman in fifth.

One team hunting for a better weekend will be the drivers at Western Sydney Motorsport, after great qualifying and two race wins, and a dead engine on the last race Justin Ruggier looked set to take the round, but the last race saw him drop to 16^th in the race and put him down at 7^th on the leader board.  And Blake Sciberras sits sixth which isn’t indicative of the car speed he had at Baskerville.

The cars first hit the track on Friday morning at 9.10am after the penguins have woken up!  The class has practice, qualifying and race one on Friday – first up and the last event for the day.  Races two and three take place on Saturday (11.05am and 1.15pm local times) and race four is at 11.20am on Sunday.
