LACHLAN WARD RACING LEGEND CARS ITALIA CHAMPIONSHIP REPORT

Lachlan Ward Racing recently ventured again overseas in search of more Legend Cars racing, this time it was to the Legend Cars Italia Championship at Autodromo Vallelunga for the Formula X Italian Series and what an adventure it was.  Lachlan has sent through his report to share.  Read more below.

Legend Cars is the biggest International racing series in the world, stretching from Australia, the US, Italy, France and many many more countries. I want to join these dots and create a World Championship series for these awesome little cars. Racing in Italy was a good opportunity to showcase the fact you can race these anywhere across the globe.

Practice and Qualifying

Obviously I had never driven the track before, but we started off super strong, finishing P6 and P8 in practice while just trying to get my head around the track and my head around the different types of drivers in the field. In Qualifying we banked a good lap early which sat me P4 in race 1 which I was ecstatic about!

Race 1 went well, we achieved the fastest lap time of the race which in italy sets your starting grid for the following race, meaning I started on pole in front of 10,000 fans representing australia. Unfortunately my race for the lead was cut short by another competitor who turned in on me, resulting in a p9 finish.

Race 2 I started from Pole and lead multiple laps of the race, a late safety car was called and bought the field back to me where I was spun with 1 to go dropping me back to 14th, after a few overtakes I finished P11 in race 2.

Race 3 was unreal! started P7 and quickly found my way back to the front. A race long battle with the best Legend Car Drivers in Italy saw me finish P3 for my first podium in Italy, and now the 4th country I have been on the podium in (US, Australia, Malaysia and now Italy!)

All in all it was an unreal experience and something I will remember forever, the passion the italians have for their motorsport is unlike anything I have ever witnessed and it certainly rubbed off on me.

I learnt so much in Italy about these Legend Cars, a lot of which I have already used among the drivers in my Legend Cars Australia Team Ward Motorsport.

It was an unreal experience and I can not wait to bring people over to race in their awesome series.

And whats next for Lachlan: “At the moment I’m focusing on my legend car team in Australia chasing the championship.  My next race is the legend car world finals at the end of October in Las Vegas where I’ll be running the Italian drivers coming over to race.”
