Penrite Racing’s David Reynolds has got the Team’s championship off to a flying start, with the #9 driver only just missing out on a podium at yesterdays’ Superloop Adelaide 500.

Meanwhile, Anton De Pasquale’s season debut ended up in P14.

David held his starting position of second at the race start and over a long first stint steadily held his place.
The better of the two off the line, Anton, who started P8 got away well though lost his place through a tricky first lap and dropped back one spot.

The #99 driver was the first of the two teammates to pit on lap 16, while David began to chip away at the deficit to leader Jamie Whincup.

He made the first of two stops for tyres and fuel on lap 23, and emerged just in front of long-time rival Shane Van Gisbergen, on one-lap older tyres.

David and Shane had an epic battle of cat and mouse, fighting hard right until they stopped for a second time on lap 41.

Anton followed just two laps later, emerging P14 after the sequence settled out.

David charged on through the field, though Van Gisbergen played the long game and waited until lap 49 to pit, giving him clean air and a good advantage.

The #97 emerged just ahead of David and the pair battled hard to claim the final podium position for the remaining 29 laps.

The order remained fairly static as David continued to push, meanwhile Anton was stuck back in the pack and unable to move forward.

After 78 laps the positions were made official and David crossed the finish line just behind Van Gisbergen in 4th, Anton in P14.

“That was just so difficult, it was such a tough, challenging race. I was just busy,  flat out, the cars just have a lot of attitude and we’re working really hard, so you just have to be on top of your game. You can’t drop concentration for a second. I think I barely spoke to Al the whole race.

“The battle with Shane was tough. I qualified well  but after a couple of laps the tyres started to fade a bit and I knew I was on the defence a bit and I maxed out my bars with what I could get to block him and that’s all I had to the end. I had some good battles, but it was difficult today.

“The car set up over a distance is what we need to take from today. It’s not too bad over one lap if you add a bit of smoke to it but we just need to work on it for a race because no one really cares where you qualify, its where you finish.”

“It was pretty hard, I battled a bit. Our car pace was off today. We had a pretty fast car yesterday, then made a few changes and things aren’t really making too much sense so we’ll just re-evaluate everything with engineering and go again.

“We’ll have a look at it and Mirko will tune her up. We had a few dramas, so we just have to iron all that out, understand it all and try to come back tomorrow.”
