After a two-week break following the Melbourne 400, Tickford Racing is back into race mode and heads to Symmons Plains Raceway for the Tasmania SuperSprint.

Last weekend Chaz Mostert (No. 55 Supercheap Auto Ford Mustang) placed fifth in the California 8 Hours at Laguna Seca, competing in GT cars, but this week refocuses to his Supercars duties, sitting third in the championship after claiming the Larry Perkins Trophy at the Australian Grand Prix.

A winner at Symmons Plains in 2016 and 2012, Will Davison (No. 23 Milwaukee Racing Ford Mustang) has his eyes on victory again in Tasmania after a strong and consistent start to 2019. Davison is one of just three drivers who have finished in the top ten in all six races of the year, though he has yet to step on the podium in the early stages of the season.

In races where he hasn’t encountered issues, Cameron Waters (No. 6 Monster Energy Ford Mustang) has finished in the top four each time, including three podiums, and sits ninth in points heading into the third round of the championship.

Lee Holdsworth (No. 5 The Bottle-O Ford Mustang) heads into the 190th event of his career aiming to continue reining in his Mustang, having scored a pair of top tens on a hectic weekend for the 36-year old in Melbourne.

The Tasmania SuperSprint gets underway Friday with an additional driver practice session on Friday, April 5 ahead of main game driver activity for the remainder of the weekend. Co-drivers Michael Caruso, James Moffat, and Alex Davison will steer their respective cars in the session, while the team’s Super2 driver Thomas Randle will get behind the wheel of Car 5, serving as his first Supercars laps since the Super2 round in Adelaide last month.

Races 7 and 8 of 2019 take place on Saturday and Sunday respectively; the field for both races will be set via the knockout qualifying format which debuted at the Tasmanian circuit in 2018.

DRIVERS’ VIEW

Lee Holdsworth
“I always enjoy heading to Tassie. It’s a challenging little circuit that always produces tough, close racing. Given it wasn’t a strong round for Tickford last year, it’s hard to set solid expectations for the weekend, but I do expect we’ll see a step forward in performance. My focus is to continue building my understanding of the car and bring home a good haul of points, so we’ll see how we go.”

“Obviously we’re really happy with how the year’s started off, while we’ve had a couple issues we’ve been really competitive so we’ll look to keep that momentum going. I think we’ll have our work cut out for us, Tassie hasn’t been a great track for us since I’ve been here, but we’ve definitely stepped our game up this year so I’m excited to get down there and have a red hot crack at it.”

“It’s good to get back in the Supercar this weekend, obviously we’ve gotten off to a good start so we’re hoping to capitalise on that momentum we’re coming in with. That said Tassie wasn’t a good round for us last year and we haven’t been able to quite make the most of our weekends here the past few years. The competition’s always tight there, so we’ll have our heads down all weekend trying to get that extra couple hundredths. But fortunately the morale’s good within the team, the cars have been quick, so hopefully we can keep it up this weekend.”

On new livery for Car 55:
“The Supercheap Auto Mustang’s got a sweet new livery on it this weekend, it’s a mean looking thing and the fan reaction has been great. It looks fast standing still and we already know it’s fast on the track, so I’m excited to take it out for the first time on Friday.”

“I’m looking forward to getting racing again, there’s been plenty of off track talk lately, so it will be good to put the helmet on and get on with it. I’ve had great memories in Tassie, it’s a circuit and place I really enjoy. Last year was tough, so we are fully focused and prepared for anything. It’s a track that has certain requirements, and with such a short lap car speed and qualifying are critical. It’s important we maximise every weekend and continue learning about our new package, so we’ll continue on that path this weekend.”

Tim Edwards, Team Principal
“It will be an interesting weekend, no doubt. There’s plenty of change and there’s been lots of talk in the paddock so it will be good to try and put that to bed a little and go racing. Tassie’s been a challenge for us the past few years so it will be a good chance to see how we’ve improved, and it’s always a tenth or two that separates half the field so we’ll have to be on it from the word ‘go.’ It’s been a good start to the season and we’re humming along at the moment, so we’ll try to keep that momentum up through the weekend.”
