SVG LOCKS IN ‘SUPER SIX’ FORM AFTER REBOUNDING FROM 38TH IN PRACTICE

Shane van Gisbergen has engineered a sharp turnaround at the World Centre of Racing, shaking off a slow start to bank consistent top-tier speed ahead of the Daytona 500.

The Kiwi superstar’s campaign began quietly, with the No. 97 Chevrolet posting the 38th fastest time in Practice 1 (49.321s) and qualifying 37th on single-lap speed. However, van Gisbergen has since flipped the script in pack racing conditions.

After driving to a decisive 6th place finish in yesterday’s Duel #1, vaulting his starting position from deep in the field to 13th, SVG proved the performance was no fluke. He backed it up in Practice 2, once again crossing the line in 6th, signalling that his race setup is dialled in and ready to contend with the leaders.

With the car finding its rhythm, teams have just one final practice session remaining to make adjustments before the main event.

Race Day Alert: Storm Clouds Loom

While SVG’s form is stabilizing, the Florida forecast remains the biggest wildcard. Meteorologists are predicting a 50% chance of precipitation for the 68th Daytona 500, which threatens to make the race a stop-start affair or push the finish late into the night.
