RANDLE TO MAKE SPORTS SEDAN RETURN IN SOUTH AUSTRALIA

THOMAS RANDLE will make a spectacular return to his 750-plus horsepower SAAB Sports Sedan at this weekend’s Shannons SpeedSeries event in South Australia.

Randle will contest Round 2 of the Precision National Sports Sedan Series on The Bend’s West Circuit this weekend (May 31-June 2), his first national Sports Sedan series round since the 2021 season.

One of Australia’s quickest tin tops, the iconic SAAB will sport a slick new look this weekend.

Supporters Snowy River Caravans, BP, Castrol, ACT Fence Hire, DeVilbiss and Herzog Steel all feature on the refreshed livery, unveiled today.

Randle heads to South Australia sitting eighth in the Repco Supercars Championship and fresh from a top five finish in the most recent race in Perth last week.

“It’s fantastic to be getting the band back together and give the SAAB Sports Sedan a run this weekend at The Bend in the Precision National Sports Sedan series,” Randle said.

“I am thrilled to welcome Snowy River Caravans and BP onboard the #49 SAAB for the weekend, and continued support from Castrol, ACT Fence Hire and DeVilbiss.”

Randle said the chance to get more racing laps was an opportunity too good to miss this weekend.

“I always love racing this car and it’s great to keep up the racing miles and stay sharp while we have a couple of weeks break, in between the Perth and Darwin Supercars rounds,” he said.

“It’s such a fun time away racing with Dad and the guys (Adrian and Geoff) so here’s hoping we can have a solid weekend – albeit nice and early each morning!”

Sports Sedan racing factors strongly in Randle’s racing career, the Melbourne-based driver first contesting a round of the national series in 2014.

He finished third in the 2015 championship and has driven the car intermittently since then, with his last outing coming at the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit in a Victorian State Championship round in the second half of 2023.

Randle’s father Dean claimed the 2006 National Sports Sedan title in a similar Chevrolet-powered SAAB.

The Precision National Sports Sedan Series will contest three races this weekend as part of the Shannons SpeedSeries event at the South Australian circuit.

Following practice on Friday, qualifying and Race 1 will be held on Saturday morning ahead of two further races on Sunday.

Races 1 and 3 will both be shown live and free on 7plus this weekend.
