Reef McCarthy has regained the Victorian State Champion title in Formula Vee after the deciding round at Calder Park Raceway last weekend.
McCarthy did enough with a 2nd place finish in Race 1 to secure the Championship. He didn’t have it all his own way over the weekend with Lee Partridge taking line honours in both Race 1and Race 2 before McCarthy took the chequered flag in the final race of the event.
Classic Formula Vee wheel to wheel action by both competitors saw all 3 races finishing with margins of just 0.03 seconds between them.
The newly crowned State Champion said “It was a great weekend of competition and my first time racing at Calder Park. Lee Partridge and I battled all weekend swapping the lead on most laps. Total respect for the guy, clean but hard racing that saw us racing side by side on many occasions and never touching a wheel.”
The young Victorian will now prepare for his final event of the year at Island Magic late November. He will be out to break the category record he set last year by attempting 5consecutive Island Magic titles in Formula Vee.
Competitors will race for the prestigious Mauri Fordham Memorial trophy and it will double as the final round of the Australian Series bringing the biggest national Formula Vee grid of the season to Victoria.
Island Magic will be held at the Phillip Island Grand Prix circuit 25th and 26th November.
