KAVICH BROTHERS JOIN BATHURST 6HR IN SUPPORT OF BREAST CANCER TRIALS RESEARCH
MEDIA RELEASE/Race For A Cure – Photo: supplied
Brothers and race car drivers Ben and Michael Kavich are returning to the circuit in support of lifesaving breast cancer clinical trials research. Competing in the Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour on April 9th, the brothers will be hitting the track in their pink liveried Race For A Cure Vehicle, asking for donations to support the research conducted on behalf of Breast Cancer Trials – www.raceforacure.org.au.
Race For A Cure was founded by Toula Kavich (Ben Kavich’s wife) following her breast cancer diagnosis immediately after the inaugural Bathurst 6 Hour back in 2016. Toula’s diagnosis shocked the Kavich family as they had already lived through the harrowing impact of breast cancer after Ben and Michael’s grandmother and mother were both diagnosed.
As this insidious disease had already caused so much disruption and heartache to their lives, the brothers found a way to combine their passion for motorsport with such an important cause, helping to spare as many families as possible from the effects caused by breast cancer.
Since starting Race For A Cure in 2017, the Kavich family has raised close to $130,000 for Breast Cancer Trials research.
This year will be the seventh consecutive Bathurst 6 Hour with Ben and Michael competing, taking to the wheel in the X Class in a Garth Walden Racing built and prepared BMW M2 Competition. Last year was their best finish, placing 7th overall and 6th in their class.
The Race For A Cure vehicle will also have a splash of yellow as it marks the third year for Yellow Pages as the Official Marketing Sponsor, a long-time partner of the Kavich family via the support of 1988 Auscar champion and father Tony Kavich at Bathurst 1000 in the 1980s.
Yellow Pages CRO Elise Balsillie, says, “This year we’re proud to be continuing our partnership with the Kavich family and Race For A Cure. This partnership enables life-saving Breast Cancer Trials research, and we are thrilled to be a part of it. We hope that together, we can continue supporting a cause that impacts so many Australian women”.
“By supporting Race For A Cure, you’ll be helping to find better, more tolerable treatments to save and protect lives from breast cancer. Your kindness and support mean the world to all those impacted by this disease” says Julie Callaghan, Chief Operating Officer – Fundraising and Philanthropy, Breast Cancer Trials.

The Bathurst 6 Hour is set to be held across the April 7-9 Easter long weekend, the 2023 event will see three days of almost non-stop track action culminating in a capacity field of 66 cars contesting the 6-Hour, making it a record field for a Bathurst event. The 2023 6-hour will be broadcast live, ad-free, and on-demand on Stan Sports.
