The classic four-wheeled stars of the Historic Leyburn Sprints will hit the track with some extra sparkle this year thanks to a new dash of polish from Australian car care company Bowden’s Own.

Bowden’s Own will be a major product sponsor for the 25th anniversary Sprints on 21-22 August, supplying samples and prizes from its range of around 70 Queensland-designed and made products.

Sprints organising committee President Tricia Chant welcomed Bowden’s Own as the event’s newest partner.

“The Historic Leyburn Sprints is all about beautiful classic vehicles on the track and in the Shannons Show ‘n’ Shine and Vintage caravan displays, so it’s perfect that we’ve joined forces with the most respected name in Australian car care products,” Mrs Chant said.

“The Bowden family’s renowned private collection of historic Australian racing cars is proof of the presentation quality their range of products can achieve and we look forward to Bowden’s Own adding literally to the glistening spectacle of this year’s Sprints.”

A Bowden’s Own spokesman added: “As a South-East Queensland-based company which loves cars and Australian grassroots motorsport, the Historic Leyburn Sprints is a perfect fit for us.”

The Sprints time-trials, voted Queensland’s Motor Sport Event of the Year, are run on a 1.0 kilometre course around the closed streets of Leyburn, 60 kilometres north-west of Warwick, on the southern Darling Downs. The event celebrates the running of the 1949 Australian Grand Prix on the township’s outskirts.

Along with a 200-plus entry of historic and classic racing cars, this year’s event highlight will be the Leyburn Legends Weekend, a guest line-up of some of Australia’s greatest racing drivers from the 1960s to the 1990s. Other attractions will feature the always-popular Shannons Show ‘n’ Shine, a Vintage Caravan Show and country markets.

The Queensland Government’s Queensland Destination Events Program and the Southern Downs Regional Council provide financial assistance to help promote the Sprints and attract visitors to the Southern Downs region. The Historic Leyburn Sprints was named 2017 Queensland Motor Sport Event of the Year.
