HMO Customer Racing drivers, Nathan Morcom and Josh Buchan have finished a productive opening day of practice inside the top 10 at Phillip Island for Round 2 of the Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series.
Morcom ran second to the Audi of Chaz Mostert during the cooler morning practice then recorded the 4th best lap during the afternoon session, just 2/10ths shy of the fastest time. Nathan’s 1.37.589 in the morning was only bettered by Chaz Mostert during the course of the day.
“It was a good day,” Nathan Morcom said. “Times tend to be better earlier in the day, before the track gets too hot. We ran old tyres from Symmons Plains throughout the day and will bolt on some fresh rubber for qualifying.”
Josh Buchan was down in 13th at the conclusion of the opening practice and held some reservations when he headed out in the afternoon. He breathed a welcome sigh of relief after leaping inside the top 10 as the TCR action drew to a close for the day.
“The morning session left me with a few concerns as I struggled to put a good lap together,” Buchan stated. “The afternoon has given me confidence for the weekend and I believe that the grid is going to look quite different when we fit some green tyres for Saturday.”
Teams head out for qualifying at 09.55 Saturday, with race 1 scheduled for 14.25
