Adelaide-based George Gutierrez has taken ownership of a race winning Team18 SuperUte – last raced by Nathan Pretty at Bathurst in 2019.
Progressing on from two campaigns in the Toyota 86 Series – finishing 3rd at the season finale and 7th overall in the 2019 championship. Gutierrez will make the return into the V8 formula, having previously raced a V8 Ute at the Clipsal Adelaide 500 in 2016.
“After what was essentially a year off due to COVID, it gave us the opportunity to assess different options for what could be the next step, and the renewed V8 SuperUtes category was the perfect fit for us.” stated team owner/driver, George Gutierrez.
“This new formula has the right pieces to bring the class back to its glory days again, and most importantly bring the fans to the fence.”
“This year is going to be a steep learning curve, a new car to learn for myself and my team.”
“Having to do the engine transition in-house will make the remaining weeks prior to round one quite busy. But we are prepared for the challenge and can’t wait for the first shakedown later this month.” ended Gutierrez.
Round 1 of the V8 SuperUtes kicks off in front of the Adelaide-based squads home crowd at the OTR SuperSprint on the 8-9th May 2021.
