2020 BATHURST 1000 UNDER THREAT

The 2020 edition of the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 is under further threat of not going ahead, Motorsport Australia tonight have posted a media release stating that “As of 19 August, no national or state level events (both Championships and Series) can be held anywhere in NSW.” – This has since been updated to say for an expected 6 weeks.

The MA media release BEFORE being updated to say “6 weeks”

The NSW Chief Health Officer has implemented new restrictions which will impact the ability for events to go ahead in New South Wales.

There is some confusion as the statement goes on to say, “Regional events may continue, in line with Motorsport Australia’s Return To Race strategy and NSW restrictions, which will allow for local events for local competitors only, with no overnight stays.”  Bathurst is a regional city, but is of course still part of New South Wales.

The sales of Camping and General Admission Tickets to the Bathurst 1000 was suspended last week.

The Bathurst 1000 is set to run 8-11 October some 8 weeks away it is hoped that the racing restrictions can be eased before then, but this will be subject to the NSW Chief Medical Officer easing them.

Aside of the Supercars, ARG’s TCR Australia along with S5000 are looking to race at Bathurst in November, this too maybe up in the air.

We’ve asked Motorsport Australia for further clarifcation for both State and National events and the on-going pandemic, more to come.
