The National Trans AM Series will feature more 100km races at the end of the season to decide the inaugural champion.
Adding to the previously announced Trans Am Bathurst 100 at the Bathurst International, the series ending event at Symmons Plains in January will also include a 100km feature race, the Australia Day 100. And less than one week later at Baskerville, the non-championship ‘State of Origin’ event will include three Trans Am races run over 100km in total, the Baskerville 100. This event will also include a top 10 shoot-out.
To add further incentive to competitors competing at Bathurst, Symmons Plains and Baskerville, a new trophy will be awarded – The TA 100 Cup – with points only from the three 100km races counting towards a special prize. Extra Series points will also be on offer across the 100km races.
Formats for the other events in Sydney, Sandown and Phillip Island will remain as three x 20 minute sprint races.
Trans Am category manager Liam Curkpatrick says that the addition of an extra trophy, plus feature races, comes from competitor feedback and formats used in international Trans Am competition.
“Trans Am cars can run longer races, so they are suitable for this 100km race format which is also in line with similar formats run overseas,” said Curkpatrick.
“This is a great way to end our season with these feature-length races.
“The competitors were really excited by the 100km race at Bathurst, and the feedback that we received was to include more, so it’s great that we’ve been able to do that for Symmons Plains in what will be known as the ‘Australia Day 100.’
“And to further tie in Baskerville, as it is not a round of the series, a top 10 shoot-out and the awarding of the ‘TA 100 Cup’, will make for a great way to finish our inaugural season.”
