André Heimgartner has secured his first Supercars career pole position today at Sydney Motorsport Park in his NED Whisky Racing Ford Mustang. André will start Race Twelve, the final race of the weekend, from the front row after an outstanding drive in both qualifying sessions.
After holding back yesterday and running only hard tyres, the team was in a great position to score some results today with a full bank of the quicker soft tyres at its disposal. André was able to maximise the tyres in qualifying taking P4 in Race Eleven qualifying and pole position for Race Twelve.
The team is in good spirits given the difficult circumstances leading into this weekend, preparing the cars from the Kelly family farm in country NSW.
Race Twelve of the Championship begins at 2:50pm local time.
André Heimgartner, #7 NED Racing
“Really happy today with how we went in qualifying, we obviously held back yesterday just running the hard tyres. We tuned the NED Mustang up overnight and it came out lightning fast in qualifying on the green soft tyres.”
“It really gives myself and the whole team confidence that we can get those good results after everything we’ve dealt with this year. It’s good motivation for myself and the guys that have left their families back in Melbourne to be on the road with the team. Hopefully now we can have a good race and stay where we are and get a good result for the whole team.”
