PODIUMS FOR ANTON AND JORDAN WHILE DAVE SCORES A PB

Penrite Racing’s Anton De Pasquale has scored yet another Eseries podium, this time at Michigan International Oval Speedway, while teammate David Reynolds improved on his best, just missing the podium with a solid fourth.
Wild card and Erebus Academy junior driver Jordan Boys also impressed on debut as he scored a podium in the final race of the night.
Race 27
At lights out it was Anton off the front row as cars went three-wide into the opening corners. David, who started from P28, quickly worked his way up twelve spots to P16 before Chris Pither fired into him and sent him to the back.
Jordan showed why he is a rising star, moving up from 10th to fourth, before the drivers took their one compulsory stop. Anton pit on lap 19, before David and Jordan pit three laps later.
At the end there was nothing in it as the #99 was side-by-side with Scott McLaughlin into the last lap. Shane van Gisbergen managed to get the tow though and made a lunge in the final moment and pipped them at the post to take the win, just ahead of Anton in third.
Jordan finished just outside the front pack in a commendable fifth place, while David was unable to recover from his earlier incident, finishing in P24.
Race 28
A reverse grid for the second 28-lapper meant David was further up the front in P7, ahead of Jordan in P27 and Anton in P29.
All three Commodores steered clear of carnage at the start as the field settled into a rhythm, Anton clawing his way up 19 places in just six laps, before moving up the inside of the leader pack.
A competition caution was called on lap 12, just in time for pit lane to be open as majority of the field pit under Safety Car.
On the restart Anton was tapped by Fabian Coulthard, and the lightest of contact sent the #99 Holden spinning on to the grass and to the rear of field.
David was having better luck though and fought his way to fourth before the checkered flag, improving his personal best in the virtual world.
Jordan unfortunately got tangled up and couldn’t continue his impressive run from the first race, finishing in P16, ahead of Anton in P24.
Race 29
As the green flag was waved at Michigan for the final time, Jordan got away well in 7th, ahead of Anton in 8thand David in 10th.
Again, they made it through the opening lap without an incident, though it came unstuck as Fabian Coulthard again helped David into the fence on lap two.
With the #9’s race virtually over, Anton made his way up the front for a vigorous battle for the race lead. Locked in combat with Chaz Mostert, he was just four spots ahead of Jordan in sixth.
Jordan pit for tyres and fuel on lap 22, with David two laps later and Anton the same again.
With just three laps remaining the team looked to have secured their spots in the top five. Chaz and Anton continued their battle though Anton became a passenger when Chaz turned right, ultimately pushing Anton into the wall and down to seventh.
The incident elevated Jordan to third before the line and gave him his first podium on debut, while David also got caught up in other’s antics and was taken out on the last lap, ultimately finishing P18.
Anton De Pasquale commented on his mixed night of results: “We did what we had to do at the start, won the qualifying race and then raced to the front for the whole first race and didn’t make the right call towards the end and finished third. But we all crossed the line side by side which is cool. There wasn’t much in it.
“The reverse grid race, we got to the front but got turfed so that ruined that. They called a random safety car and then we got turfed down the straight which was a bit odd.
“We started in eighth for the finale, got to the front, did all the right things and then we were in a position to win it. We were running up on Scott, had track position and momentum and then got turfed down the straight again!
“Overall, we had a laugh and had some good fun, but ultimately the real stuff is what I am looking forward to. One round to go. We’ll see what they do with the format of tracks for the final round.”
David Reynolds also said: “I really enjoyed tonight. I felt like I improved every race.
“In qualifying we had myself, Anton and Jordan so we were collectively trying to work together. It’s the first time we’ve really tried doing that and I think it helped us because we all started up the front.
“The first race I didn’t do that well. I was going ok and making my way up from the back and got crashed into. The reverse grid race I finished fourth. I drove quite well in that second one. Then the last race I was driving the best I ever have, but then got turned around early and I got pushed back to about 21st and then I drove all the way up to fifth on the very last lap and then got put into the wall.
“Every race I did, I learned more and more and got better and better. I had the ‘Super Driver Coach’ Ben Rothberg from Hyper Simulator helping me. He is amazing. He was telling me what was going on and where to put the car and where the grip is and it got easier and easier. I came out of the pits in 19th and drove all the way up to fifth. On those oval tracks it’s very hard to do that so I was actually semi-impressed with myself.”

While Jordan Boys noted his Eseries debut: “That podium was unexpected. It was really cool. We probably put a bit too much fuel in at the pit-stop but overall, it was good fun and I’m surprised at how well we went because I hadn’t raced on an oval track before.
“I hadn’t really done much i-racing before. I’ve had the sim for about three weeks and I’ve used the Erebus Motorsport sim about three or four times so I haven’t had much experience, but I had been spending as much time on it as I could the past few weeks.
“Anton, Dave and I practiced during the week which really helped, doing some laps with me and getting used to slip streaming and all that stuff. We all tried to help each other in qualy which worked.
“We thought there might be Michigan and a couple of other tracks to learn so we were practicing on a few tracks so once we knew it was just Michigan it was good to be able to focus on the one track rather than multiple tracks.
“I raced against Anton in Go Karts a bit and with Dave being from Albury as well, we have a bit of a link with the families, so I have spent a bit of time around them over the years. It was good to be able to work with them on this. They have helped me out at the Erebus Academy and test days when they can, so to have that extra resource to lean on has been really handy.”
The series now heads to Australia’s most iconic circuits, Oran Park and Bathurst next week for the tenth and final round of the Supercars All Stars Eseries.
