Cameron Hill says he’s philosophical after the opening round of the Porsche PAYCE Carrera Cup Australia finished in anticlimactic circumstances at the Adelaide 500 today, the field only completing a single racing lap due to a mid-field crash and lengthy clean-up process.
Despite the lack of clean running, Hill still managed to make up a position, improving from eighth on the grid to seventh, and finishing the weekend sixth overall.
“Considering our pace at the start of the weekend, I’m disappointed not to have been on the podium; the penalty in Race 2 was costly for us,” Hill said.
“It’s a shame there weren’t more race laps today, as I feel I could have made up some more positions.
“On a positive note, our car speed was excellent, which gives me a lot of confidence for upcoming events.
“It’s a long season, it’s not going to be won or lost in the first round – our car is in one piece, and the next round is at the Grand Prix, a circuit where we were fast last year.”
The Australian Grand Prix Carrera Cup round will be held from 12-15 March.
