TEAM 18 UP FOR THE ADELAIDE 500 CHALLENGE

The 2020 Supercars Championship officially roared back into life with the first practice session of the new season in the books at the Superloop Adelaide 500.

IRWIN Racing’s Mark Winterbottom was the best of the expanded two-car team, finishing the 45 minute session in 14th place.

Winterbottom worked his way through a heavy program of adjustments to fine tune the handling of the IRWIN Racing Commodore ZB for the upcoming twin 250km races on Saturday and Sunday.

New team signing Scott Pye, driving the #20 DEWALT Racing Commodore ZB, was 17th in the session, using the session to focus on a package for the upcoming races.

Two more practice sessions will be held tomorrow, with qualifying and races on Saturday and Sunday.

“Good to be back in the car and great to be back on the Adelaide street circuit,” said Mark Winterbottom.

“A few handling characteristics to fix but mechanically the car ran great.

“We’ll look at the data and try and tune the car up overnight and tomorrow’s going to be a big day with another two practice sessions to move further up the field.”

“The car was pretty good here in Practice 1 at the Adelaide 500,” said Scott Pye.

“We went for a race run at the start so we didn’t maximise the tyres we had early in the session, but we tuned it up throughout the session and by the end it was quicker than we were at the start which is what we always aim for.” 

“Hopefully we can find some consistent top-ten pace in practice to best prepare ourselves for Qualifying on Saturday.

Race 1: 4:20pm (78 laps)

SUNDAY
Qualifying, Race 2: 11:50pm (25 minutes)
Top 10 Shootout: 12:25pm (30 minutes)
Race 2: 3:20pm (78 laps)
