MEDIA RELEASE/Team 18 – Photos: supplied
Team 18 has welcomed DEWALT® as the naming-rights partner for the #20 DEWALT® Racing Holden ZB Commodore to be driven by Scott Pye in the 2020 Virgin Australia Supercars Championship.
DEWALT® is the world’s largest power tool company and the flagship brand of the world’s largest toolmaker, Stanley Black and Decker. DEWALT® has a long history of providing their “Guaranteed Tough” power tools reflecting the millions of tradesmen who swear by DEWALT®for making the toughest quality power tools for use at work and at home.
DEWALT® joins fellow Stanley Black & Decker brand IRWIN Tools as the naming-rights partner of Team 18’s expansion to two cars in the Supercars Championship, having raced as a single-car operation since 2016.
DEWALT® is not a new name to motorsport, having a strong involvement globally in categories including MotoGP and NASCAR. It was in NASCAR that DEWALT® famously backed Matt Kenseth to win the 2003 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and continues to support Joe Gibbs Racing with Erik Jones in the #20 Toyota Camry.
DEWALT® Racing will be supported on track by Huski Construction Equipment, Nulon Oils, VISA Global Logistics, Hino Trucks, PacLease, Goodyear and a host of strong commercial partners.
Supercars race winner and emerging star Scott Pye joins Melbourne-based Team 18 led by Charlie Schwerkolt in 2020, and will race an ex-Triple Eight Holden ZB Commodore as driven by Shane Van Gisbergen in 2019.
After a successful go-karting career, Pye progressed to Formula Ford in 2008 before moving to Europe and claimed the highly-prestigious British Formula Ford Championship in 2010. The South Australian returned to Australia, joining the Supercars Development Series in 2012 racing for Triple Eight. Pye’s main game experience has included forays at Lucas Dumbrell Motorsport, DJR Team Penske and most recently Walkinshaw Andretti United.
As previously announced, Team 18’s engineering squad will continue to be lead by the experienced Phil Keed, while Pye will be supported by Matthew Saunders as Race Engineer and Rory Jackermis as Data Engineer.
Pye will hit the track in the #20 DEWALT® Racing Holden Commodore ZB for the BP Ultimate SuperTest at The Bend Motorsport Park on February 18, before Round 1 of the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship at the Superloop Adelaide 500 on February 20-23.

Scott Pye – Driver, #20 DEWALT® Racing Holden Commodore ZB
“I am really excited to be joining Team 18 and it is an incredible opportunity to represent a global brand with DEWALT®.
“A new team, a new number in 20 on the door, a new sponsor, and a new challenge. I’m really excited to be teaming up with a new team mate in Frosty as well so i’m really pumped to see what we can achieve at Team 18 this season in the Supercars Championship.
“From the moment I started chatting with Charlie about what I was looking at doing in 2020, the decision for me became really clear when he mentioned that DEWALT® was going to be the naming rights partner on the car. To represent the largest power tool company in the world is surreal.
“The car looks fantastic and the activations they’re going to have at the circuit are going to be second to none, and it reflects their investment in the sport, in this team and in myself.
“We have some pretty exciting times ahead and i’m super excited to be in this car this year with a proper package and working with a team that’s really motivated and extremely talented.”
Charlie Schwerkolt – Owner, Team 18
“It is a dream for me to have a two-car team with such high calibre partners like IRWIN and DEWALT®, and to bring Scott Pye on as the driver alongside Mark Winterbottom is a real coup for everyone at Team 18.”
“I am thrilled to have Stanley Black & Decker supporting both cars in the team. It goes back five years ago when we started with one of their other brands in Sidchrome, and they have continually increased their investment and support to IRWIN and now DEWALT®.
“DEWALT® is the largest power tool company in the world, their range is incredible from saws, to drills to radios and it is all cordless lithium battery technology. We are so proud to have them, it’s powerful, it’s tough, and it is the brand to have.”
“Scott Pye is a fantastic addition to Team 18, he’s going to make a great team mate to Frosty. We’ve seen how well he can drive in the last few years and he’s on the way up for sure, it’s exciting to have him onboard.
Daniel Keyse – Brand Director, Stanley Black & Decker
“We are delighted to take the opportunity of naming rights sponsor on the Team 18 second car,” said Keyse.
“DEWALT® is dedicated to bringing the most advanced tools to professional trades people.
“The DEWALT® Racing sponsorship alignment with Team 18 will give DEWALT the chance to activate on and around the track, at our retailers in the lead up to the race evnts which will allow us to engage with our end user.
“As a part of this partnership, alignment with Team 18 will give DEWALT® the chance to activate on and around the track, allowing us to engage with our end user. The DEWALT® racing car looks exceptional!”
