Tickford Racing’s consistent strength across its three remaining Ford Mustangs yielded another solid result in Sunday’s Race 27 at the Gold Coast 600. Cameron Waters (No. 6 Monster Energy Ford Mustang) led the way for Tickford, following up Saturday’s fourth place finish with fifth in the 300-kilometre enduro, alongside co-driver Michael Caruso. The Monster Energy pairing kept Caruso in the car for the majority of the race, electing to undercut the field for track position, leading ten laps in the middle stint of the race and ultimately jumping their teammates in the final order.

Lee Holdsworth and Thomas Randle (No. 5 The Bottle-O Ford Mustang) and brothers Will and Alex Davison (No. 23 Milwaukee Racing Ford Mustang) both repeated their Saturday results, coming home sixth and seventh, respectively, at the chequered flag.

After a major single-car accident in Saturday’s Top Ten Shootout, Chaz Mostert and James Moffat (No. 55 Supercheap Auto Ford Mustang) did not partake in Sunday’s racing activities due to the extensive damage to Car 55. The team will revert to a spare chassis for Car 55 at the Sandown 500.

The Virgin Australia Supercars Championship heads to its penultimate round of the 2019 season at the Sandown 500, November 8-10. Sandown will also be the final leg of the Enduro Cup, before the season finale event at the Newcastle 500 in late November.

“It feels like déjà vu. Yeah, it was a solid weekend, you know, really pleased with how we’ve ended up. We would have liked to have come home with some cookies, but you know, we’ll take that and we’ll build on it for next round. Tom did a great job, the team did a fantastic job, so The Bottle-O will hopefully be on one of those top three steps the next round.”

Thomas Randle
“To come away with two sixth places, and yeah, I didn’t put a mark on the car today, which was good. I had much better pace and much better confidence today, so yeah, looking forward to teaming up with Lee again in a couple weeks’ time…I’m much more confident after yesterday, but definitely going into Sandown (it’s) even better. I’ve raced there in Super2 last year and I’ve driven a lot of different cars there, but next round will be double duties for me as well, we have our Super2 round as well as Supercars.”

“We had a really fast car, obviously we qualified back a little bit, which kind of hurt us, but we just rolled the dice, tried to do something a little different. It was so close to paying off, we even came in early to try and undercut, obviously the cars we were racing, but yeah, just fell short. I had to fuel save quite a lot at the end, which meant I couldn’t go hammer and tong, so it is what it is, we tried hard, Carus did a mega job and we’ll bounce back for the next one.”

Michael Caruso
“To be honest, I was just trying to the best I could, because I knew what we were trying to do. Cam and I, we wanted to come here to get a surfboard, so absolute went hammer and tong for it, to be honest, and yeah, the car was great.”

“I’m gutted for the team. I didn’t have a great lap going to be honest, and just made a small mistake, but that’s all it takes to have a big one here. Sorry to the Tickford boys and girls, and Supercheap Auto, it’s a real shame to end the weekend this way.”

James Moffat
“Certainly it’s disappointing to have the weekend end like that, but the important thing is Chazzy’s okay. It’ll be a big week for the crew back at the workshop, but we’ll plan to show up at Sandown and hopefully have a chance to reward them for the hard work.”

Will Davison
“Well when you qualify third, finish seventh, you’re never happy, but it’s not a disaster. A lot of people probably feel worse today, this weekend. We chased the car all weekend, definitely made good in roads in qualifying this morning. I was really hopeful it was going to be a better race car, but it was sketchy to say the least.”

Alex Davison
“Whether I was in the car or Will was in the car, we just weren’t quite quick enough today unfortunately. (Luke) Youlden jumped the first chicane and got me at the start and I spent a whole stint stuck in his hot air, which cost us a lot of time today. Even though you’re not right on someone’s bumper that hot air really sets you back and makes it very hard to get places. It set us back a little bit, but two top tens, we’re not ecstatic, but it could be worse. We need to do a little bit more work and hopefully get a bit more car speed out at Sandown.”

Tim Edwards, Team Principal
“It was a solid day and a solid weekend for points, Chaz’s accident aside. It is a bit frustrating to not leave here with a surfboard, but the three cars that we raced came back with good results and minimal damage, which is hard to do here. Obviously it’s going to be a big week back at the workshop for the team, but we’ll get back to it and give it a red hot crack at Sandown in a fortnight.”
