BROC FEENEY TO MAKE AUS GT DEBUT AT THE GOLD COAST IN A MARC CAR

17-year-old Kumho Tyre Super3 Supercars Series Champion, Broc Feeney will be in action at this weekend’s Vodafone Gold Coast 600 behind the wheel of a Gold Coast-built, V8-powered MARC Car with an eye on a strong performance around his home circuit.

Feeney is seeking redemption at the Gold Coast after his campaign last year in Aussie Racing Cars was thwarted by a Saturday crash.

He was hospitalised after the freak incident, however he heads to the event just 10 minutes from his home full of confidence after winning the tough Super3 Series Title and a rigorous year of on and off track training.

Throughout 2019, he has been under the watchful eye of Bathurst Champion and Gold Coast identity, Paul Morris who has trained Feeney, which saw him become the youngest Champion in any Supercars category back in September at 16 years and 11 months.

The youngster – who turned 17 on Saturday – sees the entry into the Australian GT event an opportunity to get laps on the 2.96km Gold Coast 600 street circuit as he continues to build towards a career in Supercars. 

With two one hour races on Saturday and Sunday respectively, the opportunity is there to get many laps around the 2.96km beachside track.

“Last year was quite a disappointment – I expected a lot as it was my first race at home and we had a lot of support right around the circuit,” said Feeney.

“It’s been a year, but it is something that has bugged me, so I’m looking for a strong result in the MARC car this weekend.

“To take on the circuit and have those two longer races is a great opportunity to get a real feel for it, particularly in a V8 powered car.

“I’ll certainly be pushing for the class win – which would be a great story with MARC Cars being built on the Gold Coast too. They aren’t in the outright category, but we can go for our own win and hopefully pick off some of the open category cars too.”

Feeney and his team are currently working towards 2020 racing plans, however, personally his focus has been on finishing his school year

“Honestly, I’m focused on what I’m doing week-to-week at school and also in my apprenticeship at Norwell Motorplex,” Feeney said. 

“We’re hopeful that we’ll have something exciting together for next year.”

Australian GT will start with practice and qualifying on Friday before races on Saturday and Sunday.

The event will be covered live on Fox Sports and KAYO Sports.

MARC Cars Australia are manufactured on the Gold Coast and are shipped across the world. They are well known as endurance racing specialists including racing at the Bathurst 12 Hour for a number of years. They have been a mainstay of the Australian GT Championship throughout this year.
