Formula Renault Eurocup championship leader Oscar Piastri is keen to get back on track this weekend (October 4-6) as he travels to the Hockenheimring for the penultimate rounds of the season.

The Australian racer took two podium finishes at the German circuit last year and is optimistic about repeating that performance, if not going even better, as he races towards the championship title.

Despite a tricky visit to Barcelona last weekend, where he was pushed into a spin in race one before recovering to finish fifth, he still has a 12.5-point lead in the standings thanks to his fantastic form throughout the season.

With six victories and two clean sweeps across the weekends at Silverstone and Spa-Francorchamps, the R-ace GP driver has proved to be the class of the field, but also demonstrated his overtaking abilities in Spain as he raced back through the field.

The 4.574km circuit mixes a challenge of straights into hairpins with some tricky, off-camber corners, providing not only a stern test for drivers, but also several good overtaking opportunities.

Melbournian Oscar will be on track for two Collective Tests on Friday, October 4, at 09:50 (CEST) and 14:05. The usual format of qualifying and a race on Saturday and Sunday remains, with both sessions to decide the grid at 09:05, with race one at 15:35 and race two at 15:20 a day later.

Live coverage will be shared on Oscar’s Facebook and Twitter accounts, with further updates posted on both platforms and his Instagram page.

“Hockenheim was a pretty solid round for me last year with two podiums so I’m looking to do that again if not better. Hopefully it is smooth sailing out in front with a couple of wins. I’ve done it twice before so it isn’t impossible, but we will have to see how we go in practice and qualifying and take it from there.

“Race two last year was pretty chaotic with rain and 50-60kph winds which messed around with the car. I like the track and I’m looking forward to getting there. I think it is up there with Spa in terms of overtaking opportunities, so it should be a good weekend.”
