PENRITE RACING BETTER PREPARED THAN BEFORE FOR BATHURST

Penrite Racing has ticked off their final test of the year at Winton Raceway today, as the team prepare for next week’s Bathurst 1000.

The annual pre-enduro test was labelled a success after all four of their drivers reported positive steps forward.

The Melbourne-based squad spent the morning understanding recent aerodynamic changes and testing performance components, before shifting their focus to Bathurst in the afternoon.

“In Pukekohe we were rushed into an aero change that we didn’t know much about but today we were able to learn a hell of a lot,” CEO Barry Ryan said.

“That was a big item to tick off; then there were few performance items that we had tried at the track but taken back out because we didn’t have the time to risk it.”

Co-drivers were also on hand to practice driver changes and run through procedures ahead of the year’s biggest race.

“Pit stops were really good, we are focused on making time in pit lane as much as on the track, that’s a key focus.

“The car and drivers are fast, so we are in as good a shape as we have been the last two years, if not better.”

Luke Youlden, who returns for a third year with David Reynolds, is also feeling confident.

“It’s the happiest I have ever been heading into Bathurst,” Luke Youlden said.

“We have spent a lot of time working on driver comforts, and although there is always compromise, it’s a lot better.

“We are approaching Bathurst the same as we always have, but getting these things right is more important because we don’t have a second chance like we have had before.

“We went through a lot of things today and ticked a lot of boxes; I feel the most comfortable and most confident I have heading into the enduro’s.”

Co-driver of the #99 Holden, Will Brown, said being back with the team a second time around was a great help.

“It’s great to be back with the team a second year, it makes everything a bit easier,” he said.

“Anton and I spent a lot of the day nailing our driver changes, that was the biggest thing for us today.

“I had a few race runs as well which was good but I will have 250-kilometre under my belt on Saturday and be more than ready come Sunday.”

The Bathurst 1000 begins next Thursday, October 10, with three practice sessions kicking things off.
