Race 23 – Position 24 ?

Mostert qualified P4 for the first of two 70-lap races in Pukekohe after topping Practice the same morning despite a niggling back injury. 

The Supercheap Auto Driver came together with his teammate, Cam Waters, at Turn 5 which damaged Mostert’s right front corner and forced him into the Garage for 14 laps, later rejoining in last place where he finished. 

Mostert dropped into 4th in the Championship Standings as a result of his P24 finish.

“I guess this place just hates me some days. We made the car a fair bit better today, car had good pace, and obviously we were on for a podium if it all came together, then unfortunately Cam and I got together. We were racing hard, I had warmer tyres so I thought I’d be able to get around the outside, but he went just as deep as me and locked up, and that was that. Broke some bits on the front corner and we had to scramble just to get points. Tough day, we’ll try to make it a better one tomorrow.”

Race 24 – Position 3 ?

Mostert qualified P7 in the Top Ten Shootout for Sunday’s finale 200km Race and was one of the few drivers whose race was advantaged by the Safety Car mix-up.

The Race was controversially changed by a Safety Car that entered the field in the incorrect position and Mostert filed back onto the track after his pit stop under yellow flags in P3, where he would then finish.

After the podium celebrations, Mostert proclaimed that his trophy should have gone to teammate Lee Holdsworth, who missed out on the podium due to the Safety Car.

Mostert climbed back up from 4th to 3rd in the Supercars Championship Standings after his podium finish.

“I had a lot of pressure from Nick (Percat) there at the end, but what a crazy day. Really should have been probably racing for probably seventh or something like that, but yeah, just ended up with a trophy, don’t really understand how. Everyone’s obviously pretty disappointed, as you would be, you know you’ve had a guy like Lee Holdsworth start on the front row today, Waters started up there too, and yeah unfortunately they’re probably the guys who deserved to sit up here today.”

Mostert will now prepare for the Bathurst 1000 for Round 12 of the 2019 Virgin Australia Supercars Championship, to be held on 10 – 13 October with all races to be televised LIVE on Fox Sports and Kayo.
