PENRITE RACING DUO TAKE POINTS AT PUKEKOHE

Penrite Racing has endured their toughest race of the season, with issues hindering both Holden’s of Anton De Pasquale and David Reynolds.

A mistake at Turn 2 during Qualifying saw David stripped of his fastest time and end his streak in the Top Ten Shootout, ultimately starting the race from P22.

Anton had his own misfortune and was unable to make it out of pit lane in time to do a second flyer, and with his first not good enough, he was set to start from 14th on the grid.

Both drivers got away well though. David, the quicker of the pair, managed to make up three spots before the end of the opening lap.

The Penrite Holden’s continued to pick off their competition, though argy bargy in the middle of the pack caused contact for the #99.

Now in P17, Anton radioed to his crew and reported bent steering, before the team reacted and called him to pit at the end of lap 8. He re-joined at the rear of field.

David, meanwhile, was on the move and had made his way to 9th before a throttle issue wrecked his race.

Unsure of the exact problem, the #9 stopped at the hairpin and deployed the Safety Car, before idling back to pit lane for repairs.

The crew did a monster job to fix the car, one lap ahead of the minimum requirement to be declared a finisher, returning to the field 14 laps down.

Stopping once under Safety Car, Anton still had a third and final stop to make for a quick splash of fuel on lap 42, before racing to the finish line.

Still nursing his steering dramas, Anton drove well to 20th before meeting the checkered flag, while there no way of improvement for David in P24.

David Reynolds – Started: 22nd, Finished: 24th

“Today was one of our worst and it all started in qualifying. I went too fast into Turn 2 and came off the kerb funny and straight into the fence. We had made a few changes between yesterday and qualifying, but we made more changes in a different direction before the race.

“My race car was really good, I made a good start and was making my way through the field, then I came out of Turn 6, went for the throttle and it just died. Something went a miss; it went a bit spongey and I somehow got it back to the pits very slowly.

“We made it back out and got some points at the end of the day, finishing equal 9thfor the round after a really good day yesterday. Hopefully we get all this bad luck out the way; the next one is where it counts so we can’t wait to get there and hopefully it all comes together for us.”

Anton De Pasquale – Started: 14th, Finished: 20th

“I think we made the car a bit better overnight, but we weren’t able to get the most out of the new tyres in qualifying, then we didn’t get to do an extra run so that put us 14thfor the start.

“The race wasn’t bad; I was holding my own and moving up slowly. I made up a spot and was passing for another spot but made some contact and bent the steering. I then spent the last 60-odd laps trying to keep the car on the road, the front was pretty bad, so we weren’t in the race after that.

“We were still able to make some points and not lose too much in our Championship standing, it’s just unfortunate we didn’t quite have the luck go our way this weekend.”
