Penrite Racing’s CEO Barry Ryan believes his team has made a significant step forward this season, as they head to Darwin third in the Team’s Championship.

The Melbourne-based squad edged their way into one of the top spots after a strong showing in Winton last month – and Ryan wants to stay there.

“We are reasonably happy with where we are, we’re sitting where we deserve to be in the team’s points,” he said.

“It all comes down to teamwork; the entire team has fought really hard as a cohesive group to use all our combined strengths to ensure we succeed.”

Having risen from 6thin the Team’s Championship this time last year, drivers David Reynolds and Anton De Pasquale sit 4th and 13th respectively.

Reynolds holds the same spot he did in 2018, though De Pasquale is up six positions and almost 200 points year on year.

“The drivers have worked so well together to push and help each other improve together with the team,” Ryan said.

“Having Anton contribute by performing so well has also been critical.”

De Pasquale, who is in his second season with the team, scored his maiden podium at Phillip Island, and has improved his racing average by four places to 12th.

Reynolds has also bettered his standard from 8thto 6th.

Collectively, the Penrite duo has scored 16 top ten race results so far, a stark contrast to their ten last season.

“We are focusing on finishing every race and minimal errors in all aspects,” Ryan said.

While recognising his team was heading in the right direction, he admits there is still more to do.

“Our goal is to win; the category and its best teams are at such a high level though that we need to perform at 100% and we are probably performing at 90%.

“We believe if we perform to our best potential, we can beat any team on the grid.

“Darwin will be our biggest test as a team this year to ensure we perform at 100% the moment we step out of the plane, we can go there and most tracks for the rest of the year knowing we have a chance to win.”

The Darwin Triple Crown kicks off with practice next Friday.
