PHILLIP ISLAND GRAND PRIX CIRCUIT SAFETY UPGRADES
The Phillip Island Grand Prix circuit has undergone a few safety upgrades since we were last here in April for the Supercars SuperSprint.
Turn six “Siberia” has had a make over with a new armco barrier on the inside of the corner which traditionally has been a dirt bank, the changes work quite well for our photographers, as in recent years they have been banned from getting close, despite the cars very unlikely to end up on the inside area. We also believe the fence on the exit has actually been pushed back by 5 metres or more.
Probably the biggest change is at turn 10 MG where it has been a grass run off, this has now seen bitumen outside of the corner for run off and now a gravel trap up to the tyre wall. (See the image above) In the wet cars were unlikely to pull up before the tyre wall, it will be different now.
