JACKSON BUTON SET FOR AUSGP AFTER F4 TEST

Sydney teenager Jackson Burton will line up on the grid at Australia’s biggest motorsport event when he joins the CAMS PAYCE Australian Formula 4 Championship supporting the Formula 1 Rolex Australian Grand Prix at Albert Park on March 14-17.

Following two successful test days at Wakefield Park and Winton Motor Raceway, the 16 year old will join defending series champions AGI Sport on the grid for the opening round of the season.

The former karting champion will join the Formula 4 championship off the back of two seasons in State and National Formula Ford competition, finishing third in the 2017 New South Wales Formula Ford Championship in a Synergy Motorsport prepared Spectrum, before joining the Borland Racing Developments outfit for the 2018 Victorian and National championship.

“I’m really excited by the opportunity to join AGI Sport for the Formula 4 support races at the Australian Grand Prix,” said Burton.

“It’s an awesome feeling that I’ll be sharing the same turf with Formula 1 and the likes of Ricciardo, Hamilton and Vettel, I’m really looking forward to getting out on track at the famous Albert Park circuit.

“It’s very promising to be with a team of AGI’s calibre after winning the last two championships with Nick Rowe and Jayden Ojeda, learning from the experience of Jayden has helped immensely so far.

“I’ve learnt a lot from my time in Formula Ford about car control and developing my race craft, and now I’ll be building on from that and further refining my driving technique to get the most out of the F4 car.”

Burton looks forward to racing under the guidance of AGI Sport Team Principal Adam Gotch.

“It’s great to have Jackson Burton onboard for the Australian Grand Prix support races next month,” said Gotch.

“We’ve tested him twice now in recent weeks and he’s adapting very quickly to our Formula 4 machinery.

“He’s learnt a lot in a relatively short space of time working with our engineers and driver coach at the recent Winton test day.

“We’re looking forward to hitting the streets of Albert Park with Jackson who will be part of a strong five car line-up for AGI Sport at this event.”

Burton hopes a strong showing in front of the global stage of the grand prix can lead to a seat for the remainder of the Formula 4 championship.

“If the opportunity presents itself, I’d love to continue in Formula 4 for the rest of the year. 

The 2019 Formula 1 Rolex Australian Grand Prix hosts the opening round of the CAMS PAYCE Australian Formula 4 Championship on March 14-17.
