Fine and Sunny conditions greeted a large crowd for the first day of the Lakeside Classic race meeting featuring QTCC, Trans-Am and Historic Group N.

Matt Mingay entertained audiences with some burnouts and jumps in his Stadium Super Truck Machine… and plenty of fans had the opportunity to meet Jim Richards, who is the special guest of the event this year.

In the Queensland Touring Car Championship, it was a day of break outs – several Class A2 and B drivers were faster than they’re allowed to be in their class – (At Lakeside… Class A1 is made up of cars clocking sub 59-second laps, A2 is for anyone running around in 59-62 seconds and Class B is anyone slower than 62).  Steve Hay and Murray Kent won one race each in Class A1 – that’s seven each for the season now, and Kent maintained his 92-point lead.

In Class A2, Stuart Walker won the opening race, and Michael Woodcroft won the second. In Class B, due to breakouts, the results changed post-race… Mark Giorgio was given the win in Race 1, and Andrew Knight won race two… Mark Hyde and Simon Harrex were the original winners, but pinged for lap time infringements… Simon Harrex was running in his first races in 28 years.

In the Australian Trans-Am Series, Anthony Tenkate won the opening race, and Robert Hackwood took the second. John English took pole, but started rear of grid, as he had a penalty carried over from the previous round in June.

In Group N – regular front man, Peter Baguley scored pole, but mechanical dramas saw him retire from both races… Simon Phillips made the most of his misfortune, to win both races, ahead of David Woddington. Brad Harris was third in race 1, fourth in Race 2, and Grahame Wrobel was fourth and third in the two races.

Action resumes today at 9:30am.
